Had this nine years ago. The very first thing the surgeon said to me when he walked into the pre-op room was you're going to get arthritis in this ankle.

I'm 2 year status post ankle dislocation and trimalleolar fracture after falling on ice. Two reductions had to be done. Surgery and Physical Therapy followed. I read the e.d. note I saw all the pain meds they gave me. Holy mazoly! Makes sense though because it was horrendous pain! I'm better now but won't ever be totally the same. I still love looking at all the scans and xrays!

Can you give some stats on the risk doc? I’ve heard of some people fracturing and dislocating and never getting arthritis after

I had a trimalleolar fracture and dislocation. 2 years on after surgery, I have no signs of arthritis and I'm 58.

I broke my ankle so bad that it was practically dislocated 30+ yrs ago. I am now having worse arthritis than I used to. Sometimes it feels like it's going to snap. I hate it so much because it has left me unable to workout like I used to.

I pulled/tore ligaments in both ankles several times, one took a piece of bone with it as it tore free. Even now, îf I scratch the the inside, high up on my right ankle it causes a tingling sensation in my pinky toe. And I can pretty much sprain my ankles now just by running.

So true got the arthritis had major surgery five times on my home and you got that same as arthritis going I wish it could go away but it doesn’t so you just learn to live with it and her all the therapy for years all the pins and everything else that goes with surgeries ah life is great

I have been out of work for 28 months now bc my Ortho doc is a punk and won't do my surgery "until the swelling comes down". I had an ATFL tear they thought was a simple sprain up until the 3 month mark of me complaining. Now I have lymphedema and still haven't had the surgery to repair the ligament so the swelling is hanging around like a bad smell, preventing me from working let alone being my normal active self.
I'm 34 years old and I am 90% less active than I was before this happened and nothing's changing anytime soon thanks to workers comp 😢
I wish you were my doctor❣️ If you were I'd probably be off to the police academy already
