Every fantasy world is like Los Angeles now

The Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins flat out said that they were going to cast the show to look like "America will look in a hundred years". Which is why you can't have 8 people on screen without at least half a dozen different ethnicities represented.

Everyone looks like they are from everywhere. So no one looks like they are from anywhere.

The biggest issue like you mentioned is that in the real world, everyone comes from a different place but in these fantasy worlds we are supposed to believe that all these regions have the same cultural make up.

The thing is the witcher is not any generic fantasy world. The netflix shows are😭. The books and games especially witcher 3 are such a mature fantasy world. The world and characters are so grey, complex and the theme that there is no right choice but only a less evil is so well done especially in the witcher 3. Its about choices and consequences. But the netflix franchise fails miserably at capturing the themes and essence of the incredible source material. Henry was the only good thing about it and now even he’s gone since he is also a fan of the games and books.

They're so obsessed with representation, but all they're representing is modern LA while ignoring the rest of the diverse world made up of countries of mostly homogenous populations.

I was born, raised, and have lived my whole life in Los Angeles---It is no fantasy world. It's a sewer.

That scene in GOT when Dany walked into winterfell and the people was looking at Missandei like WTH was brilliant. That scene makes more sense than all the other BS Hollywood do now.

Arcane is an example of how to do diversity right, it makes sense for the cast to be diverse because Piltover is in the middle of two continents and one of the most important port cities in that world.

In the universe of The Witcher, there is actually a great way where they can be able to be diverse as much they want... That is, by dumping every race in the Empire of Nilfgaard since it is really accessible to the other race and since no matter how bad Nilfgaard is portrayed, they welcome change so it would also give the story a much more gray area than what it shows in the series.

Notice that less diverse writers rooms produced better output. Diversity is not our strength; competence is our strength. Diversity is fine if it doesn’t replace competence.

Their idea of diversity is conformity (in all things)

What has struck me, recently, is the number of shows/movies I've seen that portray Victorian London as not just racially diverse, but racially diverse, without comment or friction, across all class lines. One can, if one must, argue that fantasy shows are fiction and need not subject to the forces that shape the demographics of real-world places. But I get very tired of indulging in fantastical re-writing of history to pretend that things always were in a shape that they aren't even in *now* .

Imagine ignoring racial characteristics of people in certain parts of the world just to be inclusive. It's the equivalent of visiting an eskimo tribe and meeting a bunch of african people instead.

They did exactly the same thing to the Wheel of Time, where one of the major plot points was that our heroes came from a tiny village that had no contact with the outside world - yet somehow was full of racially mixed cosmopolitan teenagers. And the wider world, which did have almost every race imaginable represented in the books living in their own nations, somehow had every possible type of person in every scene in every location - so the viewer had no idea where they were and why the characters had bothered going there, unless you were willing to try to study the half-baked stylistic and architectural differences between those locations. Which was useless because the showrunners hadn't cared enough to make any. So while in LotR the viewer instantly knew where they were due to the buildings/decor/clothes/climate, every scene in WoT, RoP, WitcherBO and Willow, could be anywhere and nobody cares.

The problem with Hollywood writing rooms today is they contain diversity of ethnicity, but conformity of thought.

When it comes to suspension of disbelief, people will accept the impossible over the improbable. The diversity in some of these shows is literally more unbelievable than magic.

Before the disasters of Rings of Power and The Witcher there already was The Wheel of Time which was an absolute travesty. NOTHING like the books and their notion of a modern audience is a bunch of other Californian writers and producers.

Turning fantasy worlds into Los Angeles…. Couldn’t of put it better myself that’s exactly what is happening

A very solid point. Subscription earned. It also does break immersion as how all of these diverse races all end up in the same place at the same time. And makes things like Elves and Dwarves seem less like real differences beyond the tall and lean and short and stocky ones. They don't even have distinct accents or personality characteristics.

This was far too reasonable of a take, you therefore, will be labelled as problematic for your efforts.
