Better Than Plan B | Other Emergency Contraceptive Options

Показать описание
Did you know Plan B isn't the only emergency contraceptive on the market? There are actually two other contraceptive methods that are BETTER then Plan B.
First up:
Ella is a pill that is effective at preventing pregnancy when taken within 5 days of unprotected sex, but it will not stop a pregnancy that has already started and will not protect you from sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Unlike other emergency contraception pills, it is not available over-the-counter.
It is a progesterone receptor modulator, meaning it stops your body from using the progesterone it makes naturally. It works to prevent pregnancy by temporarily stopping your ovaries from releasing an egg and by preventing a fertilized egg from implanting in your uterus.
You can always ask your doctor for a prescription just incase.
Second is the Paraguard IUD:
ParaGard is a copper intrauterine device (IUD) that is used to prevent pregnancy. This method of birth control is nonhormonal and is used for long-term pregnancy prevention.
Unlike hormonal IUDs (such as Mirena, Skyla or Kyleena) that release a small amount of the hormone progestin, the ParaGard® IUD is wrapped in a small piece of copper. Because sperm don’t like copper, they avoid the IUD. This prevents sperm from reaching an egg, which prevents pregnancy.
ParaGard is more than 99% effective. That means that out of 1,000 women, five women may get pregnant. Women who get a copper IUD within five days of having unprotected sex have a less than 0.1% chance of becoming pregnant.
