Astroneer - Bye, No Man's Sky - Total Freedom, Base Building, Cave Exploration! - Gameplay Part 1

We're here with part 1 of Astroneer, a brand new pre-alpha sci-fi exploration game that shows what a game like No Man's Sky could have been. It's the 25th Century and we're tasked with exploration a planet, building a base, harvesting resources, upgrading everything and eventually launching out to do it all over again! The sheer freedom you have to destroy or modify the terrain is absolutely amazing, and the low poly art style is both simple and breathtaking.

In this episode we land on our first planet, get some exploration in, and go through a little tutorial of the first steps in the game, so to speak. There's no intrusive tutorial, so I try and describe some of the things you can do, even though I'm brand new to the game myself! Our wintery planet is filled with cave systems, and we make sure to explore several of them while also getting researching done and finding rare resources such as titanium!

ABOUT: ASTRONEER:

Astroneer, an upcoming PC game from developer System Era Softworks, places players in a 25th century gold rush where they explore the frontiers of outer space, risking their lives and resources in harsh environments for the chance of striking it rich. Resources extracted from planets, asteroids, and moons can be traded with friends or crafted into new tools, vehicles, and modules. Environments are procedurally generated in a uniquely rendered voxel engine, featuring a textureless aesthetic that allows players to deform and shape the terrain as though it were made of Play-Doh.

History

Astroneer is developed by System Era Softworks, based in Seattle Washington, with members teleworking from like Toronto and Salt Lake City. Astroneer is System Era’s first game as a studio, with members hail from triple-A development with individual credits on Halo, Assassin’s Creed, Team Fortress, the Sims, and many others. System Era came together in 2014 out of a desire to create games that reflect the legacy and future of human space exploration, inspiring a sense of wonder and reverence for a beautiful universe.

Actually this game seems more like what No Mans Sky was on it's first day of development.

Too fiddly looking for my taste. If you like more sim style games this def looks good, but I still prefer NMS particularly since they are finally heading in the right direction with it.

Gray here's some tip. If you want to find metal's and stuff dig down really deep. You might enter an underground cave and there will be lots of resources, and to kill the plant's or find researching material's dig under the plant into the root.

gray, if you research more of the unknowns, you can unlock a better solar panel, and if you put the solar system on the ends of your smelter and research, when it's day they get power
