I remember a group of us went sightseeing and of course we got lost and had these little yellow cards the military gave us that basically said, help, I'm lost can you help me back to the base? 😆 Anyway we were trying to get to Shinjuku and needed to switch trains we asked for help and this young lady took us the entire way... I repeat the entire way! which was opposite from her destination and required switching to another line. We were so grateful, but she didn't want to accept anything, she said getting to practice her english was enough. I'll never forget that experience. I love Japan!

I like how many people disregarded his height and skin color and just looked at his eyes and were like "dude looks Japanese actually".

A concept like this for a video seems really cool. It breaks stereotypes in some way. Japanese people tend to think that some foreigners can’t speak a single word of the Japanese language. However they’re clearly mistaken. Learning a foreign language is no piece of cake. It’s more than just memorization and writing everything down. You have to speak with locals and get yourself familiarized with their cultures and traditions. I think languages in general are beautiful. Even learning the history or origin of languages is fascinating. At least you’re getting to know more about yourself and where you actually came from.

This is so true. When I went to Japan, if you ask people where something is and they couldn't speak English, they will physically try to take you there. People were so kind and some even go the extra mile of finding the optimal route, transport, time etc.
Edit: whoa wait 5:30 do you think that guys is a Yakuza member?

So great you chose people wearing yukatas 👘/kimonos. I never get tired of seeing them! I worked with/for Tokyo Kimono shoes and they reuse kimono silk for their shoes. Its so beautiful.

Perhaps for the next video do an interview on which parts of Japan people would suggest foreigners to come visit! Would be a nice insight for those planning a holiday or to one day come to Japan :)

Love the different content you're putting out! If I could reach a proficiency of level 1 I'd be happy. I feel that because most of them lack the confidence in speaking English, even if I were to speak a little Japanese it would ease their worries. When I was there in '20, I noticed what appeared to be a metal concert being held at Diver City and tried to ask the name of the band from a fan, but all I got was a straight up X from them. If I had approached them with a little Japanese instead, I'm guessing I might've gotten a different (hopefully better) response instead. That's one of the reasons why I like the "What are you listening to?" content and how you approach them. Keep up the good work and keep that fresh content coming!

Hello Jesse! I love your channel ! I really understand what you're going through, but in reverse: I was born and raised in Brazil and I'm Brazilian. I am of Japanese descent on my father's side, which is why I have Asian features. Brazil is known for its multicultural people, and also for having the largest concentration of Japanese and Japanese descendants outside of Japan in the world, but even today, people ask me if I came from Japan and if I speak Portuguese well. This happens even in my city, which is a capital. When I was a teenager, it used to bother me, but now I see that having a multiethnic background is really cool. It allows us to see the world in a broader and more tolerant way.
