Brain Break - Square breathing exercise

When life is stressful many of us feel anxious and worried. This is normal but can leave us with some big, uncomfortable feelings. It can even leave us short of breath. One way to help us feel calm is to focus on our breathing.
Breathing is something that we do all the time, without even noticing. But, did you know that when you breathe deeply, it sends a message to your brain to relax.
Let’s see how it works.
Follow the bee on the screen. Breath in as the bee moves up one side of the square. Hold your breath as the bee moves across the top. Breath out as the bee moves down. Then hold your breath as the bee moves across the bottom of the square.
Let’s practice together…
Breathe in (4 seconds pause). Hold your breath (4 seconds). Breathe out (4 seconds). Hold your breath (4 seconds).
Repeat as many times as you wish. Practice this “square breathing” at home and calm your mind.
