As a former hair stylist, I just want to say something. Is dyeing hair bad? Of course, but because most companies want instant color results, a stylist will have to use most like 30-40 vol to get hair that bright blonde in a short period of time. That’s what the damage really is. You’re just blasting the hair with the strongest chemicals and then using more heat to make hair look pretty and healthy. And to dye it to a natural color (I assume with permanent color which also has equally as strong chemicals) is just adding more stress

I've said it for YEARS now. Let. Them. Wear. Wigs! It lets the idol retain their healthy hair and the label can still have the colors they want for a comeback. Wigs are also a protective style for natural hair. Just stop dying their hair every month.

Honestly they should get wigs for idols if they really want their hair to change that often. They have so much money, might as well buy wigs with it. It will help them so much. Both sides will be happy.

EDIT: To the people saying wigs cannot look realistic, you clearly haven't seen modern wigs. Wig placement can look highly realistic depending on the technique used to place it. Also, extensions could also work. They are more permanent for things like promotions & concerts.

Another EDIT: There's a lot of people in the comments saying the same thing as me. K-pop idols should be able to just wear wigs. Periodt. It's safe for their hair. They shouldn't have to damage their hair for their careers. Also to the one triggered person in the comments, please stop. This is not a court case. You know who you are.

Karina looks so beautiful with blonde hair, but she is probably one of the few idols that I didn't want to see go blonde. Her dark hair seemed so healthy and lustrous, it's a shame that it's damaged now. I even worried for Ningning's hair for the length of time she's been blonde over the past year or so. Why doesn't SM invest in wigs instead of dying idols hair? Especially if they insist on changing their hair with every comeback. The stylists could install the wigs for music videos, live shows, and appearances, and then the idols could go home in their natural hair. On the topic of hair, I often worry for Dawn and HyunA's hair. Although Dawn's hair looks a bit healthier now, their hair usually looks so damaged from all of the bleaching and dying. In recent years I think HyunA's hair was most beautiful during her "I'm Not Cool" era.

Karina’s hair was so pretty 😭 literally perfection, and she also look better with darker hair, so they basically ruined her hair to probably dye it black some weeks later…

It's still baffling to me why SKorea has not popularized letting their idols sport wigs during promotions. Knowing how much more versatile their artists can be when they sport wigs (which is easier to take on and off), it should be less damaging to their artists' real hair than constantly changing up the hair colours.

To think that Karina´s hair was dyed blonde pre-debut we can imagine how damaging this whole process was to her hair. She dyed her hair black to debut and for sure there was still dark pigment at her ends even after the medium lenght haircut.

As someone who bleached and dyed my hair A LOT in the past, I know what it's like to have straw hair. I feel really bad for Taeyoung, because he got chemical burns on his scalp due to all the bleaching and dyeing. Speaking from experience, it's going to take him a lot of time to heal from it

I'm so so devastated for Karina's hair. That might seem drastic but her hair was so so strong and healthy and it took her years to grow it out like that, years! It's so sad they stripped her of her beautiful healthy hair. 😢

many black female artists use colorful wigs for music video/promotions and look absolutely amazing! their natural hair is safe and can do any hair style/hair color without the damage. i myself wear wigs occasionally and it's great to be able to have different hair styles/colors WITHOUT the damage. this would be perfect for the kpop industry who loves a quick image/color change, yet they have seen to make the shift...

kpop companies need to invest in good quality wigs, end of story. Considering how much money SM idols make for the company, the least the company can do is to get wigs so that they won't be subjected to all these dyeing. I felt sorry for Taeyong when they said he was in physical pain every time he bleached his hair.

What's sad is that you can't reverse the damage, what's done is done. I know hair isn't everything but I honestly think I'd cry if i lost my hair texture and it became "crunchy" as Taemin described it. I'm glad Red Velvet does mostly natural hair looks now.

Whenever an idol who has beautiful long black hair bleaches their hair a piece of me dies 😢

The image of idols is fun and bright that extends to their hair, they experiment with the different hair colours but too much dyeing, bleaching, extensions etc will strip the hair and damage it irreversibly. They all look so much better in their natural hair colours, the company should protect and promote that more, natural is always best and the health of the idols should always come first

Poor Taeyong, bleaching hurts him so bad but he’s been doing it constantly for years at a time. While he looks amazing w black hair.

I forgot who said it but an interviewer asked how they keep it healthy and a male kpop idol said that it's not healthy it only looks that way. People don't realize how much photoshop is used in both videos and photos. I think that extensions are used for both female and male idols.
It's impossible to keep hair healthy when it is being bleached every two weeks and heat, styling gel/cream is being applied to it everyday. Doesn't matter how much heat protectant you use or how often you use treatments or conditioners.

Also, if your burn or damage your scalp and hair follicles not even hair transplants will help. Your hair will never grow back in that area.

Not just the dyeing. It can’t be healthy to constantly have your hair curled/straighten, put in hair styles that cause breakage. AND most constantly have products like hair sprays. Because of the industry, idols don’t have a prayer for healthy hair. Any good stylist knows hair needs breaks, you can’t be using so many harsh chemicals and heat without some really terrible consequences
