What a charming man. Can't imagine how difficult it is to do an interview in another language so elegantly 👍

Worth noting that Sanada not only put in an excellent performance as Torunaga, he also did double duty as a producer as well. A hard working actor to say the least.

Just wanted to say my deep appreciation to Stephen Colbert for correctly pronouncing all these Japanese names and terms. It's not easy to pronounce and he nailed it, great interviewer.

The great majority of television is childish crap.
Shogun was impeccable, intelligent, dignified, and powerful, and the rare experience of rewarding commercial television. And this man had a lot to do with that fact.

Japanese society is so beyond ours in politeness, cleanliness, respectful behavior, organization. This man is very powerful in his elegant communication in a foreign language. Very impressive.

I am Japanese .When I was in junior high school, I remember him leaving Japan to go to Hollywood. I am sure he practice his English so hard including his pronunciation. It is usually difficult to master English especially for an adult, but I am so amazed how great his English is! I am so proud of him!!

Americans are enchanted by the self-discipline and empathy Japanese culture imbues in its citizens. That reserve and thoughtfulness is captivating, and something we might emulate individually. Notice the physical distance and grace of Sanada-san and Stephen in their respectful first greeting: no pretense! Simple, profound respect.
