I did really enjoy how Sherlock s addiction was such a big part of his story in Elementary
His mind was a curse constantly screaming at him to see and observe everything around him, which he was desperate to silence for even a brief moment

Mycroft Holmes in the book is not only smarter, He's also significantly larger. He's kind of described as this super man, just older. It's also kind of pointed to all often that he doesn't feel the need to prove himself in the way that Sherlock does, Sherlock doesn't understand that. But it's because he is more intelligent and more capable, and he doesn't feel the need to prove it. Sherlock sometimes thinks of him as lazy, but it's kind of given between the lines that he just doesn't feel the need to prove anything. He does his own work in his own way, it stated that he does the numbers for the government. The later it's kind of pointed to that. He probably plays a role in many levels of government. Including statecraft, spycraft, and national finance.

Actually, Sherlock IS a drug addict. Just like ppl who stop drinking bc they used to drink too much, Sherlock will always be a drug addict even if he specifically takes a certain amount to make himself high but not “too” high. Thats why they talk about danger nights. Nights where Sherlock might go out seeking lots of drugs that may prove to be too much. He nearly ODd once and Mycroft REALLY REALLY does not wish for his younger brother to die of an overdose. Mycroft really truly loves Sherlock. And vise versa. They just don’t talk about it.

I'm not even surprised at John's actual reaction and advise Mycroft to avoid Sherlock, he knew he kept Sherlock out of recreational drugs for years before Mary came to the picture and it was hard to "entertain" the bored detective.

“Don’t say another word he’ll snap you in 2 and I’m quite worried he might” not like I do that with my brother, no not at all

I think he is a drug user and not an addict. Haven't read the books, but in the media I saw versions of him, he wasn't an addict but more like a horrifically bored child

i wish this show focused more on his self-harming tendencies and drug abuse.

Honestly this was the only Sherlock adaptation where Sherlock had the least respect for Mycroft. It was apt considering the contemporary world.

I'm just writing this, so that the number of comments go from 79 to 80.

Although I utterly despise Charles Augustus Milverton, I did not like the name Charles Augustus Magnussen

I'm not well read on Sherlock Holmes, but isn't Mycroft a drug addict?
