Google Pixel 2 Review

Lisa Gade reviews Google’s 2017 Pixel 2, and talks about the Pixel 2 XL. The Pixel 2 has a 5” AMOLED 1920 x 1080 Gorilla Glass 5 display, a sensibly placed rear fingerprint scanner, solid battery life and it’s Daydream VR ready. The phone runs Android 8 Oreo on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 with 4GB RAM and your choice of 64 or 128GB storage. It’s sold unlocked and through Verizon for $650- $750. The Pixel 2 XL is $850-$950.

The phones have one 12.2MP f/1.8 rear camera with faux-keh software generated bokeh in Portrait mode. There’a an 8MP front camera and stereo front facing speakers. The Pixel 2 XL has a larger battery and a wider aspect ratio 6” 2880 x 1440 pOLED display. HTC builds the Pixel 2 and LG builds the Pixel 2 XL.

This is why I watch this channel- Honest reviews. Tells both positive and negatives and states when a point is an opinion. The gushing reviews of the pixel(the guardian called it the best android phone available) didn’t really tell me anything, but this review is very informative. Looks like I’ll be waiting for the pixel 3, depending on what Lisa says about the iPhone x, of course!

at first I thought that phone was super ugly with big chin and forehead compared to 2017 standard and weird power button colors, IDK how google design that phone, but the more i watched the videos about it and looking at the actual phone the less ugly it gets, it's actually pretty nice looking phone it kinda reminds me of Volvo (not the flashiest car but it gets the job done)

Just a quick update for people watching in 06/2018, I recently bought a Pixel 2 XL (produced in 01/2018) and coming from a S6 the screen was really good. It's not as saturated as the S6, and does turn slightly blue when tilted, but the screen all in a is really good. I hardly miss my Samsung screen because it always looked so damn inaccurate compared to my gf's iPhone. The camera is just fantastic, and so is the user experience. So far there hasn't been one thing I don't like about the phone. So if you see a Pixel 2 on sale, but are reminded of this review, I say go for it. The screen issue is really overblown. At launch the phone shipped calibrated to sRGB, but an update has long been released which calibrates the screen to a color spectrum similar to other phones. So basically it looks great.

I absolutely 100% agree. This is probably the MOST unbiased review of the Pixel I've yet read. Simply hate how all the other reviewers in their preliminary reviews completely disregarded the screen quality concerns of the Pixel 2 XL. Yes, its a pixel (the equivalent of Apple for Android), but don't just BLINDLY say its the best Android phone out there, when you haven't even reviewed the phone for more than a week!!!!

Overall that was a very good review. Not too positive or negative, just honest first impressions, which is refreshing. Too many reviewers do that hyperbole thing where everything is either the best or worst thing ever, but you didn't fall into that trap. The one thing that bothered me was using the portrait mode to do non-portrait photos, and then complaining that it didn't work consistently. That a bit like using the macro mode to shoot landscapes. Under normal portrait conditions (particularly with human faces) the Google software performs at least as well as the 2-lens solutions.
