My favourite part of the OVA was when Dio actually ran after Joseph in stopped time. It actually made it seem like there was a time limit to his powers

My brain: "Holy shit how did the OVA reference an anime opening that didn't even exist yet?"
Me, 30 seconds later: "I'm an idiot."

"DIO throws cars at Jotaro"
I am now imagining DIO throwing *Kars* at Jotaro

Although many of the artistic choices are questionable, some of the scenes are honestly beutiful.

Well, the animation in the OVA is beautiful (specially in the 1993 ova) but they cut lots of characters and story from the original source, also the humor and tone are more serious or darker (you will not get those funny moments with Joseph or Polnareff) but the action is brutal. With this, i still prefer the 2015 version. The music, and the way that David Pro is still handle the JOJO Manga until now it's perfect

The OVA is sadly very underrated. Yes they changed a lot, but it's still quality time none the less

I really like the OVA as its own entity for the following reasons:

1) It gives off an extremely nostalgic feeling with all the retro music.

2) It's kind of dark, melancholic and not so generous in the comedy department as DP's anime (which I love more btw), and so the OVA is unlike the modern Jojo anime, but in a nice way.

3) I'm Egyptian and the amount of detail included in the animation of the streets and rooftops of 1980s downtown Cairo, heck, even the 7 up and Coca Cola signs, is all accurate to an extent. Even the scene where Dio was in the tram, the people were speaking Arabic in the Egyptian accent.

It's not as bad as you think even with most of the arcs completely removed and the remaining ones changed drastically! 😅

So nobody is going to talk about that Jotaro's expression at 7:31?

I'd really recommend people watching it for the different take on Dio' timestop.
In Stardust Crusaders, it has this amazing 'zhoom' sound. But in the OVA, inside time-stop has different sounds and speech sounds 'weird'. It creates a REALLY menacing environment, which I personally think is better than in Stardust Crusaders.

There's a few things I like from the OVA. The animation for a start is largely quite good, even if at times untrue to the source. It's a lot more fluid and less stiff than the recent anime which nails the aesthetic style of Jojo but is pretty stiff a majority of the time. I guess that's the difference between an OVA and series budget though.

In terms of changes and additions, again, some of them are quite good actually, at least the additions (I more just accept the changes with it having to cut content to fit the run time). I would have liked if rather than totally ignoring the existence of the OVA, the recent anime took some of the scenes added in it and recreated them, AT LEAST the ones that don't actually effect the plot in any significant way. More specifically I'm referring to the scenes such as the Geb/N'duhl fight with the added glove and Polnareff on the boxes, or the Dio fight with throwing boats, spires and Dio's slapping people in half. I feel stuff like that only added to the encounters and they were actually some neat additions that very easily could have been in the source material.

I can't remember if it's in the manga (been a while since I read it) hence why I'm listing these separately, but there's also three scenes in the Dio fight that I liked from the OVA.
- One is Jotaro getting punched by the World with Dio and Jotaro questioning how he isn't dead from it, only then to show Star Platinum subconciously blocking the blows. It adds a little more to Jotaro slowly learning to use time stop as well as reminding us Jotaro is kinda a normal guy who shouldn't be able to take a hit from Dio. In the manga and anime Jotaro does kinda become superhuman in this fight whereas this one little scene can help justify it as Star Platinum taking any 'lethal blows'.
- I can't remember where in the encounter it happens, but it shows Jotaro strapping books under his shirt to splint his broken ribs. It makes the later classic scene of Jotaro getting stabbed with all the knives and falling from the sky is a lot less bullshit...Yano, where originally he just randomly has books strapped to himself for no reason.
- Dio showing off his powers early in the encounter (I think before the Worlds power is revealed). He's just teleporting around. There's no sound effect or flashy presentation, he just keeps appearing in different places in the scene. It's nice and creepy.

Oh, and Jotaro coming out of the still flames of the oil tanker, time resuming with the flames suddenly making his jacket blow around in the wind. It just looks fucking cool. I would never replace the road roller, I just had to say this bit was really neat.

The Ova removed alot, but I gotta apreciate how incredible the Time Stop looks in the OVA before The World’s ability is shown.
