About JamesandKarla:

Hey everyone! We are husband-and-wife architectural/interior photographers based in NYC. We started our video channel to act an artistic intervention to help raise awareness of the importance of small independently-owned businesses and the unique character these shops add to the streets and neighborhoods of New York City.

In our videos we will showcase portraits of storefronts and shop owners in New York City & capture moments of city life that capture the spirit, energy and cultural diversity of individual neighborhoods. We also bring our dog, Hudson along whenever we can.

We made it our mission to thoroughly document unique 'mom-and-pop' stores when we began to notice the alarming rate at which they were disappearing. Our critically acclaimed books include “STORE FRONT: The Disappearing Face of New York”, “New York Nights”, “STORE FRONT II- A History Preserved” and “Broken Windows-Graffiti NYC”.

Come see the city & subscribe to our channel :)

Sammy’s looks doubly charming watching through the the eyes of 2021 isolation here. Brought back childhood memories of growing up in North London Jewish neighbourhoods. Thanks for making me smile. Lovely video.

Yonah Shimmel, the home of the last handmade knish. Used to be at Christie and Delancey. And no governor was ever elected without having his picture taken at Shimmel's with a knish in his mush. Sit; have nice glass tea.

And it is so nice to hear people speak without an accent. ;o)

Moishe’s is great. Used to go to the one in the East Village until it shut down over a year ago. Love the black and white. Great video.

Years ago, there was a luncheonette called Moishe's that my mother and I would frequent. This was back in the mid 50's to early 60's. She actually was a childhood friend of the owners' daughter. I'm sure they are all gone now, but, this sure brings back memories. It was a great place to eat and I loved their tuna fish sandwiches. Thank you for sharing.
