Climate Change - When Will Everything Collapse?

This video is about some things you might not know about the climate crisis and hurricanes 💨...

There's also an analogy, using a piece of paper 📃, about how difficult it will be to turn things around when the crisis reaches a tipping point...

---

2022 Update:

I set up an organisation called AimHi Earth, where I'm doing my most up to date work on the climate and nature crisis.

---

2020 Update:

1) I now strongly believe that the most important thing you can do about the climate and ecological 🦚 crisis is join peaceful protests and actions, to push for systemic change.

2) When I talk about a "collapse point", I'm talking about the combination of multiple tipping points (like ice ❄️ melting, methane being released, forests dying off), and it becoming beyond our control to turn things around and prevent runaway warming.

Simple things you can do:

- Avoid beef 🐄 at all costs; it’s the easiest and most effective thing the average person can do to reduce your personal carbon footprint. I know that beef can be delicious… sorry!

- Vote for green 💚 parties in elections. Don’t be fooled by big parties telling you that voting for green parties is a wasted a vote; that’s a lie designed to generate more votes for the big parties. It doesn’t matter that your might not actually get someone into power. What matters is that, as green parties pick up more votes, big parties copy their policies to try to win those voters back. Voting for green parties is one of the best ways to get big parties to take on green policies.

- In supermarkets, try to avoid food that’s been flown 🛬 in from other continents, and ideally politely explain to the shop managers why you’re avoiding it. Make sure you’re really friendly, because then they’ll listen. It’s almost definitely not their fault that the shop is stocking it.

- Try to pay the couple of extra $ a month to get “green electricity” ⚡️. This act genuinely transforms the energy companies for the better.

- It’s an obvious one, but make sure to cycle 🚴‍♂️ or walk instead of driving whenever you can.

- If you can afford it, get an electric car 🚗. The more people who buy them, the more governments will improve electric infrastructure, and the faster we’ll transition away from our ridiculous dependence on petroleum.

- It seems like it shouldn’t matter that much, but inflating your car tyres 🚜 properly makes a huge difference.

- Check food for palm oil. Palm oil isn’t bad in itself, but the palm oil industry is destroying vast swathes of rainforest to make way for palm plantations. Don’t buy products containing palm oil 🌴 unless you're absolutely sure that they're from a sustainable source. You’ll be amazed at how many things contain palm oil. There are several delicious chocolates I’ve had to stop eating…

- Take trains. Trains 🚂 are really cool anyway, so everybody wins.

- In your home ⛺️, get better insulation. You’ll save lots of money, and the planet too.

- Recycle well. A ridiculous proportion of would-be recycling ends up in normal landfill because people haven’t cleaned 🥫 or sorted their recycling properly.

- Plant trees 🌱 - as many as you can. Houseplants are great if you don’t have any outside space: peace lilies are especially easy to keep alive, they capture loads of CO2, and they clean the air really well too.

The problem is the big company's denying climate change calling us alarmists saying the climate has changed before, yes the climate has changed due to the Milankovitch cycles and other factors but the change took thousands if not millions of years, in the 200 or so years since the industrial revolution we changed the world in a way never seen before the eco systems and all life forms can't adapt to changes that occur so fast

The #1 thing you should actually be doing is organizing with workers in critical industries, staging strikes, and grinding the world economy to a halt. The only thing the people in power care about is money, and nothing will change unless it costs too much to continue business as usual. Yes, stop eating beef, live with as little carbon footprint as you possibly can. But this isn't an individual behavioral problem, the entire global economy is dependent on fossil fuels, and things won't get better without tackling the root of the problem, and only massive, collective action is capable of doing this. So organize, evangelize, socialize, commit yourself to a mass movement and grow it until it can't be ignored. Things are bad, but we can still fix it and carve out a secure future for humanity, but only if we work together

Eventhough I'm vegan I don't think stopping beef is the most important thing. The most important thing one can do is to connect with each other and take direct and bold disruptive action. Pressure the corporatocracy and legislators who regulate them.

God I hope the younger generations are not too brainwashed by consumerism so they actually are aware of the dangers they face.

Who's watching this in 2021 like "yep we didn't make those changes" over the waterfall we go!!

Unfortunately to battle the climate change the West needs to abandon most of their ways of living:
1. Crazy consumerism
2. Feeling above the nature
3. Limit oil usage
4. Reduce standard of living by multiple times = less driving, less traveling, less buying things you don’t actually need.

And all the things you mention before.

This will never happen as that would collapse the business structure.

So we will just party until everything goes to waste.

The trajedy is that the lag time of a decade or two before the emissions full impact are felt and even worse, it will be going exponential from now on. We have failed as a species, both in spirit and in totality.

Me thinks we're already past the tipping point. The point of no return.

This was one of the best videos I've ever seen on climate change! And you're only at 6.36K subs? Amazing. You'll definitely get there. Keep making quality content Matthew! You're saving the world.

Over the past seven years I've noticed weather pattern changes around my area. The summer used to have isolated thunderstorm from may-august. Now we only have isolated thunderstorm really during august. During the winter time we went from having a decent snow of around 12 inches to about maybe an inch if not less. Apparently I'm the only one to notice. Stuff is changing, and we've got to do something.

Next year I plan on building my first home, and I'm going to make it carbon neutral.

3 yrs later and CO2 PPM just hit 420. Canada is enduring a major heat wave: three consecutive all-time high temperature records. 46.5C, next day 47.5C, the third day 49.6C. On the 4th day, the town in BC burned to the ground. Hundreds of records smashed in western Canada.

The problem is systemic, stop pretending it isn’t. I know you’re scared to abandon capitalism but WE MUST, or else we’ll die trying

We have 6 to 10 years left before we are all totally doomed. The Arctic ice is melting way faster than predicted, the AMOC is slowing down faster than predicted, the permafrost is melting way ahead of predictions. In fact, there could be a methane burp from the permafrost that suddenly warms the earth 5 degrees at any time and then it’s good bye to all of us forever.

This is tragic watching in 2021 knowing we made it past the point of no return already

What are you doing? The Pentagon is the largest producer of greenhouse gases & the world's richest 10% produce half of global carbon emissions. What kind of a dent do you expect to make with the above still going on?
