Have you found any of those old wives' tales your grandmother used to tell you to be true? Obviously, most old wives' tales are just tales. Money spiders don’t bring money, eating yam won't cause you to have twins, and itchy palms can hardly make you rich. On the other hand, there are some old wives' tales that are surprisingly true. To find out what old wives' tales are not that far off the mark, check out these 25 Old Wives' Tales That Are Actually True.

“Pay heed to the tales of old wives. It may well be that they alone keep in memory what it was once needful for the wise to know.” - J.R.R. Tolkien

One of my father's many pearls of wisdom was the saying fools and their money soon part. So far I agree with it 100%

My favourite is "If you see ten troubles coming towards you, eight will run into the ditch before they get to you, one will turn out to be a blessing in disguise, and only one of them you actually have to deal with". I have found that this is VERY true!

Some of them I never heard before but a lot of them are true. My Moms favorite one was "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" so true, miss you Mom.

The one about bones aching when storms are coming applies to migraines too - you feel the rain or snow literally coming in.

My favorite old wives’ tale is “Living well is the best revenge”.

Grandma always put baking soda on our bee stings when we were kids. Also, when we had our own children, she would say "only natural products". Never baby oil. Only olive oil. After doing research, I'm glad I listened to her.

I was in the Navy and 'red sky at night, sailor's delight, red sky in morning, sailor's take warning' was very commonplace

Hearing this list makes me smile. My grandmother used to say several of these. Especially the one about the carrots. I think she was hoping that the carrots would fix my eyes somehow lol I still love carrots though thanks to her so sweet.
Also, I’ve had several broken bones lol because I was a “tomboy “growing up … so yeah, you do know when something is coming weather wise… and if arthritis sucks this bad being younger, it’s really gonna suck when I get old lol

Great list! I love watching your videos. 😊
My Grandma use to say when you see the backs of leaves blowing in the wind, it’s gonna rain. More times than not, she’s been right on this one!

My Dad always said "work smart, not hard". Always thought he was silly and lazy, but the older i get i see the wisdom in it. If you are exerting yourself too much then there is most likely a better way to do the task.

Feed a cold, starve a fever. That was one my grandmother taught us all. I find it very true.

Smiles are contagious!
An act of kindness brightens both your mood and the mood of the person your kind too (even those that witness the act)

This list is one of my favorite ones so far. I'm a 60 year old woman from down South, and my Mama was born and raised in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. She and my Aunties were always spouting off some kind of Old Wives Tale. And since my Mama was the youngest, they were mostly old, and eithe.r married or widowed. So I thought it meant just the group of them talking and spouting something off whenever anything happened to cause them to say something they had memorized. Almost like they were afraid that if they didn't, something bad would happen to them.
Most of your list I knew, but there were a few that I had never heard of in my life. I love learning something new. Thank you. I love your show!!

One old wives tale that definitely rings true in my experience is "You Reap What You Sow"

The correlation between dental problems and pregnancy is well known. That is why, in the UK, pregnant women get free dental check ups/treatment. The OWT about red sky at night is very old. When I first heard it though, (in the UK) it was "red sky at night shepherds delight, red sky in the morning shepherds warning". The explanation of why this happens is also very true. I sometimes get aching bones when we are due damp weather but I can also smell when it's going to rain. Everyone laughs at me but I am nearly always right.
