If you tape the rear ports, you can also convert it into an omnidirectional mic!

Yep. Durable too. Drop it. Freeze it. Run over it. It is indestructible. It's brothers, the SM58 and Beta 58, are excellent also for vocals.

I use a 57 along with an mxl condensor mic to stereo mic my acoustic when tracking.. 57 where the neck meets the sound hole and the condensor at the bridge. Gives a great separation. And... If you need to hammer a nail into something at a gig the 57 comes in handy.

Miss Penny wants to play too! Haven't seen her in a while, she's getting all grown up! As for the microphone, the 57 is the only choice IMO.

Love my sm57. But for acoustic recording it’s a bit quiet and the gain boost needed adds a little too much hiss but it is definitely a versatile mic

I’ve used sm 57 and 58 going on five decades. Never a problem and extremely versatile.

The 57 is also indestructible.
I could do with an SM57, but a MD-421 is even better as an all around mic.

Also the SM7b (nearly every podcaster use it) is the SM 57 only with a better pop filter :D So spend 120$ instead of 380$ 😅
