It seems that D-Link applied planned obsolescence technique in this device. Problem with temp sensor prevents device from booting.

I think my shit DNS 327L finally died, the fan doesn't spin anymore on start up, I can't access the device, I can ping it, but can't access it. and the power light keeps blinking. Took the thing apart and the first thing I notice was how hot the drives were, might try to replace that shitty fan and see how I go, but not having much high hope.

It is a piece of junk. The D-Link forum moderator dismisses many concerns about it with the throwaway line that, "It's just an entry-level device." Entry-level apparently means that it essentially doesn't do what you would expect any NAS to do. The DLNA "server" is absolutely 100% worthless. The only way to get the device to do anything useful is to purchase the Twonky Server NAS app. That worked well for a few years until the latest power outage. The Twonky Server disappeared.

In fact, the NAS itself disappeared from my TV, and mostly didn't work through my DVD player, either as a DLNA or network device. I could read files from it via my PC, but could no longer write to the NAS. That means it went from barely useful to almost totally useless. The only way to update the operating system was to put the firmware on a USB stick, and fiddle around until it copied to Volume_1. But absolutely nothing works like it did before, including mapping the NAS drives to my PC, DLNA, Twonky Server, and FTP. Going through all the menus multiple times, has done little to make the think work in even the minimal capacity that it did before. I could go on and on.

Trying to get help is essentially impossible, as all the web sites I can find are from way too many years ago. That's understandable, since the device itself is way obsolete. The same for re-installing the Twonky server (such as the Fun Plug hasn't been supported by D-Link for years now). The thing is, I can see all the appropriate Twonky folders & files by accessing the NAS from my PC, but I can' see any of the critical ones through SSH or using the NAS file browser. I can SSH but not Telnet. But SSH still doesn't see all the existing files, nor can I re-install the Twonky Server using it. This is absurd, as the only way to SSH into the device is by using the Admin account, so why is the Admin account crippled and can't see all the files on the device? The stupid thing now demands installing passwords for some uses, which then breaks other uses, that worked fine before the passwords. I could literally spend hours explaining all the problems, and have gone through every menu on the thing many times.

I finally just ordered a Synology DS218+ NAS. D-Link has always been "entry-level" but at least usually worked in some reasonable manner. This NAS has never done anything useful by itself, other than basic file storage. And even that can be a nightmare at times, and finally became read-only. I have had a half dozen or so D-Link devices in the past, but, like others have said, I have already purchased my last D-Link device. Never again.
