Caltech’s 2023 Commencement speaker Danielle Allen, James Bryant Conant University Professor and director of the Edmond & Lily Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University, discusses her award-winning book, Our Declaration: A Reading of the Declaration of Independence in Defense of Equality.

In Our Declaration, Professor Allen combines classical thought, personal experience, and a rigorous analysis of the Declaration of Independence to argue that this founding document is fundamentally about the equality of all people.

This conversation was moderated by Caltech President Thomas F. Rosenbaum, Sonja and William Davidow Presidential Chair and professor of physics.
