If I could have a private lesson...I'd be singing Hallelujah

Vibratos to me is like adding the cream on top. You dont necessarily need it, but when its there it takes it to another level of texture and flavor.

Vibrato is the gravy on the mashed potatoes. It's the ranch dressing on the salad. It's the Merlot paired with the Ribeye.

I find that vibrato adds some sweetness and beauty to the tone of your voice.

Very well and convincingly demonstrated, Freya! Yes, vibrato definitely helps the sound, especially when used at the appropriate moments in a song.

I always needed a vibrato, because I feel like it is putting icing on the cake which everyone needs it, and it is a stylistic tool also. So everyone deserves to have vibrato as it adds colours to your singing and enchances it .☺️💞

I would say that vibrato keeps the sound in motion. You can picture the sound moving out and away from the singer. It flows.

There are some types of music where straight tone is preferable, like a many classical choral pieces. Also, there are some great pop or folk songs that sound beautiful with very limited vibrato. Ewan McGregor used very little vibrato in some of his Mulan Rouge songs like Your Song. Or in Across the Universe, Hey Jude is sung with very little vibrato. There isn't much vibrato in the Beatles studio recording either, but the movie cover of it has even less. I Wanna Hold Your Hand as sung by the Beatles has little vibrato. Probably a lot of their other stuff, but some definitely has lots. It's an obvious stylistic choice and not a technical inability.

There are some songs that can take on different feelings when sung with or without vibrato. To keep with my Beatles examples, I've heard Blackbird sung with anything from almost no vibrato to tons of quick soft vibrato. With lots if vibrato, it can sound kind of delicate and emotional. With very little, it can sound kind of heartfelt and direct in an unpolished "just a guy and his guitar" kind of way, which is also quite emotional.

Some vibrato is usually the best choice in solo singing because it keeps the tone fresh and centered in on pitch. Straight singing a long note can often lead to a flat note or dead sound. However, used appropriately and by a gifted singer, straight tone on the right song can be magical.

Thank you for the demonstration! Vibrato is so beautiful! By the way, that style of eye makeup looks so nice on you!

It's interesting to hear the differences. I have been singing with slight vibrato at certain points and I was told off for doing so because fellow chorus mates said that the voice should be clean. However, it's so boring to sing without vibrato n the song sounded very dead n somehow lack of resonance. After watching this video, I am convinced that vibrato really makes the songs richer and warmer. Thanks for putting this video up.

Great demo, really highlights the difference. I have it naturally, never thought of it that way though, don’t think it was a learned behavior. Also, I could really see your support working when you sang the more classical pieces. Great demo on that too! 😀

It has been my problem for a while until I use the right support and my voice just relax and vibrato slowly come together and I need to keep practicing till I get it naturally and really enjoy singing with vibrato. Hope to hear more about how the vibrato come out and which part of my body need to conscious about to have that vibrato happen so naturally 🙏👍☺️

For me this is a very important topic. In early music the less vibrato, the better. But it's very hard to shape a beautiful musical line without vibrato. I noticed that when you stop your vibrato in the video, you stop phrasing too. Is it possible to have good phrasing without vibrato? My vocal coach says that I shouldn't stop my vibrato, because I have it naturally and my voice looses quality when I do it. But I also sing in vocal consorts and I should avoid vibrato there. So I feel a bit confused...

Thank you for interesting video.I never saw classic composers papers and I’m wondering as they usually perfectionist do they mark now or they marked long time ago vibrato parts and also expect specific speed of it 😁
