Alfred Hitchcock (1899-1980) was an English film director and producer. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers in the history of cinema. He directed over 50 feature films in a career spanning six decades and is best known for his suspense and psychological thriller films, such as "Psycho", "Rear Window", "Vertigo", "North by Northwest", and "The Birds". He was also known for his distinctive style and his cameo appearances in most of his films. Hitchcock was awarded the American Film Institute Life Achievement Award in 1979 and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1980.
