Great video Hannah! Tips everyone needs to know! I have a similar trick for muting the guitar but instead of a sponge underneath, it’s a cut out from a computer mousepad, with tiny scissor slits for each string, and it goes above the string (as opposed to under it).

Hannah, I've been teaching the guitar for 40 years and I've not yet thought about the trick of tying the a finger to the pinky with a light elastic. I've often had to solve the problem of my students sticking the pinky out and causing an enormous amount of tension. Thank you so much for the tip! Great that us old dogs can learn from young players!!

Thank you so much for the sponge hack. I've been trying to figure out ways to accomplish the same thing you do with this hack with no success, until now! I'd like to share a hack I've used for years that probably doesn't apply to a lot of classical guitar players, but it's simple and easy and very helpful for me, as I always drop guitar picks. Use the bigger office sized paper clips on your guitar strap (between your shoulder and where it straps to your guitar) to hold guitar picks. Very simple, very cheap, and very useful. I use different gauged picks for different songs/sections of songs and I am able to easily change out and store picks this way. Hope this helps! I know that sponge hack was worth a sub for sure! Thank you!

I'm not a classical player, but I do practice sitting in the classical position because I find that helps with upperfret access for the kind of music I play (rock and metal), so these definitely help a bunch!

Glued my socks, nails and pinky. Dunno it helps playing, but I can't move now. Pinky too.

Thank you Hannah. Here's one: if you're recording just with your iPhone or android on the fly; use a capo to hold your phone up and steady! I got that one from my guitar professor 😊

The hair tie tip is a god send! I broke my pinky finger a couple of years ago and have struggled with tension in it ever since.
Only been using a hair tie for 2 days and already feel some relief on both guitar and bass!
Thanks a lot Hannah, much appreciated ;p

Lute Pants - ive used a rubber dish place mat that has a bunch of holes (found at walmart) looks a lot like a rug keeper but cheaper (not having to buy super large bags of it) cut to size - keeps everything secure. No slips. Thank you for sharing ur other hacks.

#5 is absolutely brilliant! Can’t wait to try it on my deep bowl vintage Ovation guitar. Love the guitar but the slippage drives me nuts!

Nice video. I've just started to learn to play the guitar, and the sponge hack will help me to practice in the evenings.

I have an idea to add to your sock idea. Get a bigger sock, and then fit it so the heal of the sock sits where your elbow is! That would work perfect! Once you know what size works it will be easy. Also another great hack with super glue is for your bridge. Let's say you have a bridge that fits with just a little wiggle. If the bridge is just a fraction thin, get some of the super glue gel that comes with a brush in the cap. Then brush it on in layers and allow to dry between layers. It shouldn't take much before the bridge slides in nice and snug. Maybe one to 3 layers. If it's more than that, it may just be better to get a thicker bridge. Just make sure to brush it on the entire side evenly and be sure it's dry before trying it out.

I'm going to have to try the shelf liner one. I'm a violinist that is learning the guitar, there's a big learning curve there with trying to keep the instrument stable I'm used to holding my instrument under my chin lol the angle and everything is so foreign to me lol.

I’ll definitely try the finger band trick. Right hand stiffness has been an issue lately. Thanks!

Luthier warning about the lute pants and French polished guitars. The sticky gum in the black shelf liner will decorate the guitar with a gnarly black mesh pattern imprint on the finish and it will not come off. Be careful 🙂
