I think the colour of the coolant doesn't really matter. It is just a dye that companies use to identify with their brands. A coolant is a mixture of 80% water and 20% additives (Anti-corrosion and/or anti-freeze additives). The anti-freeze (glycol) additive is not necessary in the hot climates such as Kenya. The quality of the anti-corrosion additive is what matters in an engine coolant as it needs to have a high boiling point and specific heat capacity.

Some coolants come as concentrates which need to be mixed with water at a specified ratio (on the packaging) and most of coolants in the Kenyan market come as premixed from the blending plants so no need for mixing with water.

Mr. Wokabi.I think you got your facts a bit mixed up on this one. Coolant is simply a water and antifreeze + + mix. Firstly, impurities, generally, raise the boiling point of water not lower it. Secondly, inorganic coolant is better suited for the older engines made from cast iron because they have chemicals that better inhibit corrosion as compared to organic coolants. Organic coolants are better suited for newer engine applications because the alloys used, (generally alluminium alloys) are less susceptible to corrosion by water and organic compounds. They are also a lot more friendly to the environment at time of disposal or accidental spills. Finally, the colours are a guide with pink or blue indicating organic acids and phosphates and greed indicating inorganic additives (mainly silicates)
This explains the pink coolant you generally find in newer cars.
So yeah, if your car has an aluminium block, stick to the pink coolant (organic) and green for the cast iron lot. (Inorganic).

Buda, next talk about recommended batteries for various cars. The type of fueling(v-power/unleaded)
The optimal pressure for them tires.
The levels of fueling and whether it is ok to park your car without fuel for longer periods like 3 - 4 months like when you travelling out of the country.
Finally talk about the different fluids and when to replace them..like brake fluids, steering fluids, etc

I really like how comprehensive your channel is...moving beyond car reviews to provide us with maintenance tips, which help us make more informed decisions and question our mechanics for better results. Looking forward to more great content! 🙂👍

Boss, This one you got me, I had no Idea, I could use any as I thought the contents were similar, green and pink was just colour and is really not significant. Lesson learnt.

Green, Red, Pink, orange, yellow, purple, blue…. Can never rely on color. Your owners manual will guide as to which coolant to use.
Conventional (oldskool) is propylene glycol based, Organic acid technology is the new type and Hybrid has both properties. Only mix with distilled/deionized water to avoid mineral deposits.

Good info as usual. Coolant was invented mostly for use in those regions in the world that experience winter to prevent the cooling system that used water from freezing into ice and cracking the engine block. It has a very low freezing point. It is better than water due to its anti corrosion ingredients but it can still cause it if left for too long and in the wrong mix. It will accelerate galvanic corrosion which is the corrosion of different types of engine metals that are in contact like steel, iron and aluminium. Another way that it can get corrosive is if the engine and by extension the radiator is not grounded well. It can become an electrolyte and promote metal corrosion by electrolysis. By ingredients the coolant we use is almost 90% percent water and 10% "coolant'( anti freeze) while in winter countries the mix is 50/50 .

Muache kupeleka boyz wangu wokabi mbio. This guy always produces legit contents. Everyone has their opinion, the only and a must opinion is to always maintain your engines well and be safe✌️

For Japanese cars the best coolant i'd recommend is Toyota's Super Long Life Coolant which you can buy from Toyota Kenya, Toyotsu or any shop that deals with genuine Toyota parts. Yes it is hybrid coolant and its the stuff they use from factory from the smallest petrol Vitz & Passo to the bigger diesel V8s and Prados. And Toyota themselves claim its good for 5yrs or 100, 000kms.

Point of correction impurities do not lower boiling points

Battery water is a great coolant also because it’s ionized and hence won’t make your engine rust.

Very informative!!! My vehicle is using the green coolant which I never thought much about apart from checking the levels regularly... after watching this video, it turns out that I have been using the wrong coolant - I should be using the pink coolant instead of the green one because my vehicle has an aluminium block. The things you learn!!! Glad I have known earlier than later.

Thanks man, Mech for 20 yrs and i never knew this i hope now i won't be cut off. thanks again.

Very informative Erick. A while back I put the green coolant in a Toyota NZE and later on it formed a green paste causing overheating issues.

Coolants we used it in Lathe machines to cool down the heat when machining cast iron steel etc. So it will help engine to cool down when running. I used mixed pink/orange coolant with 50/50 distilled water.

If you put water alone in ur car it will cause the water jackets around the cylinders to clog as well as the radiator because of rust. Coolant is a mixture of Ethylene Glycol andater. Ethylene Glycol has anti rust properties. You need to add coolant as well
as water in ur radiator for ur cooling system of ur car to perform well.

I have an old VW Golf MK3 1995 that am currently using but needs several things. Paint work, Suspension, Interior re-do and some engine touch ups though i recently serviced it with new plugs, Total Semi synthetic oil, all filters and changed the piston rings. Can your garage do these things and where are you located?

Excellent content. I've experienced burst pipes in the cooling system after some mechs claimed to have flushed the radiator.
It looked clean on the outside. But since that job, it was downhill. Saa hii the engine is getting rebuilt.

Can you demonstrate the outcome of a flush?

Also, kindly review additives in the market and their claims.

Was told ati you can dilute coolant na maji for better performance. Ni ukweli??

Coolant in anything thats made of steel is highly recommended because it reduces plain water from rusting components, but alloy engines you can get away with just using water as aluminium doesnt rust like steel does. But generally coolant is recommended in all engines thesedays regardless of their make or model or year of manufacture.
