What is Juneteenth?

The holiday commemorating the freedom of African Americans, Juneteenth was recognized only after the last slaves were told about the Emancipation Proclamation.

This makes it sound like Galveston was a lone holdout. The TRUTH is that slaves were NOT free on any ONE particular date...not even Jan 1st, 1863. The date to remember is the end of the Civil War which was April 9, 1865 (Lee surrendered). That is the most logical and important event that ex-slaves and others should remember. That is when the Civil War came to a De Facto end...even if there were other battles, deaths, slaves still held, and political fights to be won. And for the record...slavery still exists in the world...especially in Africa.

Funny that today is Saturday June 18th 2022 and it’s the first time I heard of Juneteenth ! At the Post Office I happen to glance at the Calendar and saw it and I asked everyone on the line what it was and nobody knew ! Even the mailman didn’t know . It’s 10:17pm right now and I remembered so I looked it up ! Amazing how we find things out some times ! I’m glad those slaves were freed ! I live in Puerto Rico in Boqueron so I guess we’re the ones who are really the last ones to find out . Well not really maybe there are other corners of Americas common wealth who still don’t know what it means !

Freedom to do good or freedom to do evil?
What do freedom have to do with graffiti and the vandalism that they are accustomed to every time they celebrate that date?

People are closing the places where they work in their businesses, not to celebrate but because they know they are in danger because of the way they are used to celebrating that date in the streets.
