The reason a mitt absorbs a lot of the self tanner is because you typically start off with a dry mitt. If you add some lotion to your mitt and get it “damp” (not water) before applying the self tanner you will see that the self tanner will apply better and easier. I like to use some gradual tan lotion on top of the mitt before I apply the self tan. (:

I've been a consistent self tanner for about 10 years now... Just like Julia, I too have tried just about every self tanner on the market, from the highest end to the lowest end - I have actually given myself tans that were so unbelievably bad that I couldn't even leave the house for a few days. (Side note: Did anyone know that FLORESCENT ORANGE is an actual color! I didn't, and it was a rude awakening.) Anyway - at this point, I've pretty much become a self tanning "aficionado" - but with that said, I'm always looking to step up my tanning game with good tips and tricks that I wasn't aware of. It's crazy how many self tanning videos that are here on youtube, claiming to have "quality tips and tricks" - but were quite obviously amateur self tanners at best. But this video?!?! This girl clearly knows her stuff, she gave some outstanding advice in regards to achieving a really good self tan. Her recommendations about pre-exfoliating with bar soap, using vinyl gloves, using a mirror in a room with ample lighting - to detailing those tricky spots with a kabuki brush, I just have to say that this was an incredibly impressive video.

I just wanted to offer one little thing that I've recently discovered that has really stepped up my self-tanning game. I used to also be a HUGE advocate for exfoliating with bar soap - but after discovering Dr. Bronner's castile soap - it is so GOOD that it is the only thing I'll exfoliate with now. It's affordable, it won't over dry your skin the way bar soap can be prone to do - nor does it leave behind that weird soap film residue that bar soap can sometimes leave behind. As an extra bonus - since it contains antibacterial properties, it's an AMAZING soap for those who suffer from psoriasis, eczema - AND it also kills the bacteria that causes acne. I know I practically sound like a spokesman for it - but it really is that good. Anyway - Thank you so much Julia - this was an OUTSTANDING video, you gave some of the very BEST self tanning hacks that I have seen yet!!!! SUBSCRIBED!!!! <3

My favorite thing to do when tanning my hands & feet is mixing a tiny bit of moisturizer into my self tanner for those tricky body parts. It looks so much more natural & fades away much better.

I bought self tanner and wanted to watch some tutorials before trying it out for the first time by myself ... but damn.. I did not know it took so much time to apply! Kudos to everyone who’s been doing this for years now !

I knew it! Those mitts are there to waste your product faster, just started using it and wondered why my self tanner was running out faster and I was not as dark as when I was using gloves.

Try rinsing with a cold rinse before you leave the shower so you dont have to wait hours..

Gloves definitely make a difference! My tip is to blend together a few drops of facial oil and just a tad of self tanner for tanning your face. Goes on smoothly and evenly.

I have been spray tanning since 1998 when it first came out but haven't ever been able to get my hands and feet just right. Tried your lotion suggestion yesterday and they turned out perfectly!! I'm so excited that I had to comment to say thanks so much for sharing!!!!

The gloves are an OG trick. I did this cos I was so sick of having orange palms and cuticles. It looked so dirty. I also now add Vaseline to my toenail/cuticle area and same on my fingertips to avoid it staining. Works so well !

You nailed it girl! I was surprised you even mentioned the part about how the product can get stuck in your pores if you don't give your skin time to tighten back up after taking a hot shower etc. Great video!! A+

Great video, thank you! A tip I’ve learned is if I ever end up with some darker areas that didn’t blend in well enough, using a Magic Eraser will gradually lighten that area right up. If I need it completely removed, just keep scrubbing and it will take it off completely. Works great on my wrists and ankles especially.

Using a fluffy brush to blend is such an EXCELLENT tip! You have me convinced, I need to take the plunge and invest in the Loving Tan product.

WOW the gloves trick is amazing!! I can’t even imagine how much product I’ve wasted using the tan blending mit... 🙄 I did my whole body in probably 1/2 the product I normally use. Awesome tip!

Broooo you just changed my tanning game. I was wondering if I'm the only bish who legit got the pores with the tanner stuck in omg. I'm so excited to do this. Guess I'm going to be doing like forever.

Loving Tan was the first self tanner I felt gave me a natural tan color, no orange! What I noticed, but chose to overlook, is that as a more mature woman, or even young women who have dry skin, Loving Tan really dried my skin out badly. This is after ALWAYS moisturizing before and having to apply moisturizing lotion cream at least twice daily. An interesting tip I learned recently is addition to stroking the tanner into your skin, also “pat” the tanner in. This made so much sense to me, as many facial toners, serums, essences are meant to be “patted” into the skin. Patting brings the blood to the surface and also allows the product to be absorbed by the skin. This may very well may make your tan last longer? I’m going to add the patting the next time I self tan. Loving Tan dries very quickly, so you must work quickly. This was the first video I watched where I learned about the make up brush, so thank you! It works GREAT! I must have been so excited I missed the “baby powder” tip, so thank you AGAIN! Many blessings to you, sweet soul!

For those who have naturally large pores (like me) wait a WHOLE 24 hours before tanning after shaving and showering. I’ve waited a few hours before and it still sunk in!

Edit: ALSO! For those who have large pores, use a moisturizer that’s non-comedogenic and try to opt for one with NO fragrance! Non comedogenic doesn’t clog pores. I say no fragrance because I’ve used it before a self tan, and it mixes with the self tanner scent and it’s just gross. And for some reason my pores just hate it! Lol

Love this video!! ❤️❤️

Something so satisfying about watching self tanning routines

Love this!! I have a very similar tanning routine. A couple tips I have are to put the bar soap into the glove and it gives you way more control and scrubs off tanner SO well. You don’t have to wear the glove with the soap but you can. Alsoooo rinse off with cold water before you get out to close up your pores faster!! And for moisturizer/lotion, a Shea butter/coconut oil or any real thick natural product works absolute best :)

Have you tried the australian brand called " Bondi Sands?" I believe it's the sister brand to Loving Tan. I went from only using Loving Tan to now being obsessed with Bondi Sands and the price you just cannot beat! I use it in " Dark" and the application is stunning!! 😍
