UPDATE:
At 3:24 I talk about the change in edge angle the further out from a fixed-angle sharpener your edge goes. This is a MYTH.
My buddy Alex from @OUTDOORS55 did a video showing why. I linked it below, as well as in the card when I perpetuate a falsehood. You should check out his video to learn more!

I have one of all the sharpening devices mentioned. My experience suggests that this is an accurate and extemely sharp video

I have been using the Spyderco triangle sharpener since 1980, and have had zero issues with it.

The spyderco sharpener is amazing for most everything.

Usable, crazy sharp edges are easy to get, within a short time, and minimal effort.

I have a KME styled sharpener, for the knives i like to show off, ...but not use.

When I was in middle school a geologist brought rocks into the class, including a large chunk of volcanic glass. By some accident, a flake got chipped off of it, and another kid picked it up and made a slashing motion with it across my upper arm. I didn't feel anything, but after a moment a thin line of blood formed where he had made the motion. He had cut a half-inch deep gash in my arm, and I barely felt it. I never even needed stitches for it. Just adhesive strips were enough for it to heal with barely a line of a scar. Like a damn anime.

I’ve been using a whetstone to sharpen for 6-7yrs now. I’m just now finally getting very OK at it.

My Father gifted me with a set of 3 Arkansas stones almost fifty years ago. Yes you will have to replace them after years of use but two Sons and two Daughters have learned to sharpen everything from kitchen knives to your best Sunday carry. And yes your Daughters need to be able to change the oil and a tire on their cars and carry a knife in their purse or pocket.

If your knife is sharper than it was when you started, good job! 👍👍

I use lansky for my expensive knifes, I get a really good polish edge, I use dimon stones and the new rolling sharpening systems for ship knifes and kitchend knifes

I started with a Lansky, tried some whetstones, and finally settled on the Work Sharp guided bench top one that rocks back and forth as you sharpen. It's my favourite, but I am intrigued by the electric belt ones....

I’ve got the work sharp Ken onion edition belt sharpener with blade grinding attachment, it’s a variable speed motor so you can prevent it from getting hot, the blade grinder attachment enables you to sharpen any size blade even lawnmower blades, because it’s a belt sharpener it puts a mirror convex edge on your knife, there’s also a flat section in the back for using it for flat needs, it’s an extremely variable angle adjustment but it gives you an even and perfect convex edge which is the best edge and it’s easy to use.

I use that field sharpener the most and have abused it on an axe before. Still works great. Also have the spyderco tri angle for when I really want to get my knives sharp or to work on the kitchen knives. Both great products.

I have that Work Sharp belt sharper and it works just fine. I've sharpened field knives, Tops survival knives, Tops kuki knives, and even hedge trimming shears. Getting a sharp edge on a 3/16" thick blade is not easy, but a field knife does not need to shave arm hairs. It will be used to chop, hack, split fire wood, and sundry rough use and a super fine edge will just chip, nick, and dull quickly.

Sharpness is undoubtedly important for cutting performance. However, I think a lot of people (especially ones new to thinking about knives critically) overlook the secondary bevel, grinds, and overall blade thickness. A moderately sharp knife that is thin will slice through cardboard better than a very sharp 1/5" thick knife. Of course, you only learn that after buying many knives from BladeHQ!

I just continually use a strop and that seems to work well, if you never let it get super dull then you don’t have to take it to the stones. To make it even easier i keep a strop on my kitchen counter so if i ever feel the need i can do a few passes to bring it back to sharp. It works pretty well of cooking and edc tasks. Just another option for people take it or leave it up to you🤷‍♂️

Hi that's a good video. Thanks. I like the work sharp Ken Onion sharpener with the attachment belt Grinder the most. The field sharpener is great for every task. For big dull knives like machetes or butcher knives after butchering deer I prefer the belt grinder. Regards
