Jarrod, hats off to you and Big Battery. This can take vanlife to the next level and has the potential to power everything you have in a van and not worry too much about space and weight. Great content and keep up your innovative approach to helping all those that love this lifestyle. 👍🏻❤️

Wow Jarrod.... The fact that these guys have really opened up the whole facility to you is great... The fact that these guys have shown you exactly what they are up to, for the consumer and the manufacturing market says a ton!! The fact that they want to here from the consumers in order to make the best battery for everyone's application is just I'm not even in the soon market for a van/bus life build, but I can tell you this, I know what battery will power it when I do get Thank you for this Jarrod!!!

Ok this just up ended all the work I was starting on the van I want to build out in the next year to go full time 24/7 van life. The big thing that was holding me back was the research on solar and battery's along with all the stuff I wanted to run.
I live in Idaho so we are talking cold winters and hot summers. So ac/heating is a must have.
Then we add in I am a PC gamer. So on my days off from work I wanted to be able to Have my PC going along with if/when needed cooling/heating, then I had to think ok time for food there we are talking hotplate/microwave/air fryer or some other item to cook a meal on.
So yea time to go back to the drawing board after looking into these guys some more!

I posted in your part 1 to this video … for those of you on the fence about Big Battery and your RV, I’ve been using a 12v OWL Max 2 system for a year now in my camper van, no issues. I initially bought one, then another three months later, and finally my third a month ago to support my new install of a 12v DC air conditioner. Total it’s over 9 KW of battery (684 ah), enough to run my AC for 8-10 hrs plus depending on temp. When you compare the capacity against some popular LFP alternatives (I won’t mention names) you will find Big Battery is by far the better value. My only criticism is the size cable on the Anderson plug it ships with … I made my own 2 AWG cable/Anderson connector to replace the thinner wire that ships with the batteries. My three batteries are wired in parallel, they are each safely contained in a metal container (with fire suppressant module inside) and no way to arc the electrical contacts (as they are recessed. Not affiliated in any way, the batteries met my needs (and saved a bunch of money compared to what I could have gotten with the same money buying a competitor’s product). Will Prouse (spelling)? Did a tear down video of the OWL on YouTube … very informative and shows great engineering. Best, Dave

Great video, great company, thank you!
Concerning 12V / 48V: 48 is better because you need way thinner cables to deliver the required Watts. Makes installation easier, cheaper and lighter. Automobiles were supposed to go to 48V but back then, everybody thought it was too hard to go to 48 concerning all the applications like radios, sat nav, etc. So we still stick to 12V and this is the reason why most EVs have a 12V battery on top to run the legacy 12V stuff. Smart it is not.
This brings me to my wish(list) for my vanlife:
A battery that
* can be charged via solar from 12-24V
* has the B2B charger built in to trigger the alternator to the max and prevent backflow
* can be charged "like an EV" at the EV chargers if I need to (e.g. battery is drained and I want to fast charge it)
* has 12, 24 AND 48V output (reason see above) built in so that I can connect each an every 12, 24 or 48 application that I need / 12V if I have to, 48V if I can
* has the inverter built in (like R2B2) for the 110 (and 230 for Europe) apps (as opposed to your remark I'd go for DC where available, since the AC inverter lowers efficiency)
* has the above list modular replaceable if needed, so that it can be repaired by most skilled shops without sending the whole pack in
* includes the cells, so maybe I can replace a single "blade" and wait for the replacement without having to send the whole unit in so that I still have power
* can be extended with packs without doubling, tripling, ... the price (since the wish-list above will require advanced systems, but extending the capacity would just require the "relatively dumb" cells to be added if required)
* BT monitoring of all components goes without saying ;-)
Again thank you and amazing that people still exist that don't go for maximum profit but want to make a change.

That’s freaking cool. Good job, Jarrod, on sourcing these guys!!

I’m going to say that If I were building a van right now, I’d want the most battery I could get, that would fit between the wheel wells. If it was long and thin and low-profile, so the rest of the electrical equipment could hang on the “bulkhead” above it, there would be more room in the garage for storage.

I was in a van club back in the 70's and 80's and we were in the stone age . what you guys have today is amazing

you want us to tell that aerospace engineer what to build?
Want --> Roof mounted (or underslung) battery boxes
Need --> to maximise space in a van, have something that will run an ac constantly at max for half a day (I live in Australia), potential for swap n go.

This was great! These guys seem like a really great company. I haven't even begun to think about powering a van yet, but I have been looking into solar for my house. I get the feeling if I called them and told them what I have to power they would sell me exactly what I need not just pitch me the rhino with the highest price tag. That's a rarity these days. Thanks for the info Jarrod!

I just need to be able to run AC @ 75 in the hellish heat of Death Valley with tons of amps to spare. Yeah - I’ll have 1200 watts of retracting solar ready too.

I am happy to see a face behind the Co. I live off grid and I bought the Kong it works vary well but because I live in a camper I thought I would only have to charge it once every week or 2 only to find out that lasts less than 24 hours mind you I was running the air but for an off-grid power I thought it would last longer. Right now I charge it with a portable generator which burns 5 Gal's of gas to charge and it makes pretty expensive to run we are on pay-go so we don't have solar panel's yet. Our most cost effective system we have right now is our Prius with a 2000 watt inverter. What I need is inverter that runs on 12 volt and puts out 240 Volt and is split phase to charge my Big Battery and you have that I will buy it if you can do it cheaper than solar panels for now. Good show Thanks!

This was great! I am planning an off-grid tiny home and a van, so nice to see options. These guys sound great. I hope the customer service and customization ability will continue. Definitely going to reach out to discuss my needs!

I would love a way to have a light weight powerful battery that would assist in environmental control for a small towable or roof mountable greenhouse. My dream is to be able to grow and share food while on the road.

So awesome. I can't wait to build my cabin now to live off grid for the rest of my life.

Bought mine last year and was excited to have for our rig. Unfortunately, my experience with BB is they’ve had some bumpy roads along the way, and I had to be part of it for six months… long story. But I do like their builds and wish they would go back to more 24v options. Even though 12v is very common, 24v requires half the voltage with only a converter as an extra piece of equipment.

Thanks for sharing this Jarrod, great content for sure, I might already just now a new plan to invest in one for my van later when I have money saved. I'm still working on my van conversion build and almost halfway done with still more to do yet. But, definitely keep this in mind to add to my plans and see what one later I would need to help supply to what I need in my van, etc. Again thanks for all you do 😉👍 take care be blessed and safe too.

It would be amazing to get that razor form factor just as powerful as the husky line so us van lifers can be a little more flexible as to where and how we store then for space efficiency. Thats a cool design.
