I have worked for over 15 years offshore as a woman as a mechanical technician and it's definitely not for everyone especially women. Different mindset

The thing is, oil rig jobs are for people who can afford to destroy their bodies and really need the cash. If she can keep up, props to her and I declare her just as insane as the men there.

So, she’s not a Roughneck she’s a Service Hand working for a Tubular Running Services Company? I worked in the same industry for 35 years internationally. We always had accommodation & food provided by the Operating Company when on location however this was not the case when I did some Cross Service Line Training in the USA one time. No accommodation or food provided at the Rig Site (which was onshore by the way) so you lived out of your truck with a Cool Box for food storage for days on end. That was a real eye opener for me but still a memorable experience. This young lady is one tough cookie 👍

Video is slightly deceptive. At the beginning it shows a photo of an “example of an oil rig” and shows and offshore oil rig. The narrator also says only 5% of offshore workers being women… this woman is not an offshore worker, she’s working on a land rig in northern Alberta. I’m also guessing most of that 5% offshore workers are women working in the food and hospitality sector of the offshore rigs. They hire food service companies to work on the offshore rigs to feed and clean the sleeping quarters of the workers who do the actual drilling. Still very hard work, 12 hours a day for 2 weeks straight but not exactly the same type of work as the roughnecks.

Dirty hands are signs of clean money. Keep it up sister. I am E&I technician at gas engine power plant and trying to get a job at rig.

Met this lovely lady on set of the Mist some years back in Halifax. Knowing her mother as I do, this makes sense. This is a strong determined woman, awesome seeing her pave the way for women in that industry 👏

Hey!

Nice video!

I'm also a woman and I'm from germany. I started working on smaller blasthole rigs in quarries. My boss said "Would you like to work for me? But you have to do the same jobs as the guys. A girl on this kind of rigs is new in germany. Let's try!"
Guys from other companies often said "That's not a job for a girl." Hahaha... But they had never seen a big rig like those in oil and gas fields before 😂
After four years working on blasthole rigs I absolved an on-the-job training in oil and gas fields working on bigger rigs. 12 hours shift, 14 days on, 14 days off, 14 days on, two weeks at school and repeat. It was a heavy job, but it was great. After my training I went back to the smaller blasthole rigs and was laughing about all the discriminatory bullshit I heard before. Now I can say to dump blasthole drillers "Hey you fat bastard, have you ever seen an big rig? I mean a really big rig. Go on your small girly blasthole rig and shut up!" 😂

Respect for being willing to take a tough job to stand on your own feet, and not just seeking a sugar daddy.

Every oil rig short I've seen had some guy covered in oil and mud looking substance doing hard work I like the part she showed us her job skills 😂😂

Now that's a strong independent woman. She does jobs other women aren't willing or even capable of doing

Yeah, I would be really mad about that. Not getting a hot meal. If you have been used to it. That might almost be a dealbreaker for me. Lol. I started scaffolding at a refinery and I am in no means in good shape like I used to be but holy cow it’s certainly going to get me there if I keep getting jobs like that. I’m an apprentice carpenter in the union and I thought my job was tough. Kudos to you for doing what you do! I bet the pay is great too! 😅
