Thanks for the tip. I always thought the main benefit to gaffers tape was the matte finish. Now I know it also removes without residue. Perfect for some artistic purposes.

And there's a cloth duct tap, like D5486 type 4, which can act as both. Regular application is easy to remove without residue. Apply some heat and you have a super permanent fix.

Gaffer tape has stronger material and stronger adhesion, and has a more rigid structure, making it better for repairs. Basically, it's just better!

As Adam Savage says, and now me too.. Duct tape sucks. I 'll never be buying another roll ever again. Although I'm considering stocking 2 different grades of gaffer tape - the good stuff I already have, and I'm thinking about getting some cheaper stuff for less demanding jobs. I pray to Adam Savage for letting me know about the awesomeness of gaffers tape, every time I need to use it. 😉
