There are two kinds of attractions at Disneyland. Those based on IP that Disney already owns, and those that are original creations. Disney seems completely behind the IP based attraction, but I'm here to argue that they should be doing the exact opposite, and the reasons are obvious. Let's talk about it!

When my kids were little, we would show them all the movies the IP rides were based on to get them jazzed for the once every two year trip to Disneyland. Now that they are older, they appreciate the original rides and general ambiance and avoid the IP rides.

If Disneyland became too much of a hassle to get into for an out of state tourist, they’re saying goodbye to more than just the ticket revenue for thousands of daily guests. They’re saying goodbye to a massive portion of souvenir revenue as well. The only people left to buy souvenirs are local collectors.

I think the first ~2 months will be annual pass/locals, but past that I think the rest of the world will need Disney, and Disney will need the rest of the world, so to speak.

To answer question about if I would go to Disneyland if I could only make a reservation 30 days in advance. The answer is no. I live in Kansas and when I travel to Disneyland every two years I need to plan well in advance. I usually stay five days and when I book my reservation and plane tickets I have to be guaranteed I can enter both parks all five days. It is an expensive trip and I have to get value for my money. My family and I loves Disneyland and we will go again when the parks are back to “normal”. I know that might be awhile.

You can argue for Tokyo Disney Sea, but at the same time yeah, I the original rides, they are main reasons why I want to go back to Disneyland every time!

Originally each land was themed after a specific movie genera that also seems to have been thrown out the window in the last 20+ yrs

You are so correct. Is jungle river ride going to be a new IP. .DCA attractions don't hit the long term spot.

What Disney doesn’t seem to realize is that the non IP rides, the original concept rides are so beloved that they turn into movies: Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Jungle Cruise. These rides are so fantastic that it made people dream about their worlds and the stories behind them. We have to know every ghosts’ name in Mansion or come up with back stories to who these Pirates of the Caribbean are. You don’t see anyone inspired to write a movie about Goliath in Magic Mountain. This is something unique to Disneyland.

And I don’t want it to seem like I hate IP rides, I don’t. There’s a place for them. I love almost everything in Fantasyland. But I’m not clamoring to buy any Dumbo merch after I ride the flying elephants. However, I will buy every single Haunted Mansion or Big Thunder pin that I can get my hands on.

Disney has on staff some of the most talented and creative people on earth. They can make an alien planet with floating cliffs in Orlando, Fl. Stop holding them back by making them create a Spider-Man screen ride. Let them create the next original ride that we’ll fall in love with.

To be quite honest there is almost nothing that would stop me from going to Disneyland. Yes reservations might be a pain but I think that the need for Disney Magic will be so strong when it’s time to reopen that many fans won’t care whether they have to make a reservation or not to get in.

I like both Original rides and IPs. Most of the originals were Walt's ideas, which are timeless rides. The IPS put you right into the movies or the experience of where you are at. For example a ride like Radiator Springs Racers and Carsland makes you feel like an actual Car that is in the beloved movie. Other rides like Star Wars make you feel like you are right in an intergalactic battle with the First Order, or The Marvel Rides make you feel like you have superpowers, and can fight alongside these famous characters.

Movies are easy to scrap but if It goes off like Pirates then it’s easy to make a ride. Case in point Cars movie, series.

Knotts has a couple of original ones. The log ride is as good as Disney rides in my opinion.

I like riding both, while IP’s are mostly for Fantasyland and Galaxy’s Edge, I prefer the original because for instance, Pirates has that water smell you experience in person while IP’s shoot air at you. (i.e. Indiana Jones)

No way! We live in Austin TX and have flex passes. We make reservations and have taken 3 separate trips using them! I don’t have a problem making a reservation to come! We just want them to open the dang parks now lol. Texas is wide open! We had a tripped booked for this coming Monday! 😢💔
