Episode #136

High Speed for the NES is the second attempt to convert a real pinball machine into a video pinball game by RARE. This time it seems that there are more elements to the game that could only be done in video form. This may or may not be a good thing as it lead to you have to worry about more things than you may have had to in the real game. However, when all is said an done, this game still winds up being fun.

High Speed was developed by RARE and published by Tradewest in 1991.

Did not realise there were so many pinball games on the NES. That one looks pretty damn hard though.
Not a bad game in the end, quite a bit of variety with the bonus stage etc.

High Speed is a great pin, I've never seen the video game translation of it. Very cool to see how they mimic some of the game play. I hope you get a chance to play the original someday.

The fuzzy circle that grabs your ball is called "Rusty" and will appear after you break the water 3 times

I too would love to see a Williams Collection Part 2. One of my biggest complaints of the first one was it didn't have The Machine nor JackBot. Theater of Magic is another one I'd love to see brought back.

At 3:51, the fireball takes your left flipper out.

INfo.

Yes the multiball tunes and the non multiball tune for normal play are from the real machine. but the other tunes are new. same for pinbot.

If you are ever around the Portland, OR area and I have it back up and running you can play mine. Right now it is in a full restore so still have around 50 to 60 hours left on it at least. As I am doing the restore as close to the original so painting the cab and touching up the play-field. I have most of the bottom cab done. Just have the front to do really.

@Croooow111 I hear you.. It will be a fine day when I have the room and financial ability to get a quality pinball machine like The Getaway!

You had a solid game!

This one generally annoys me (that damn tumbleweed gets me every time), but seeing how easy you make it look, I may have to give it another go.

Oh, and The Getaway--awesome real table! There's a local joint that has it and I have been playing it frequently these last few months. Great table!

Hi there. Pinball Quest. When you get a whole lot of points, let's say 18, 0000 and you have the stoppers & I like the Strong Flipper vs. the Devil Flipper cause it pulls tricks on you. Anyway my question is: When a high score is reached an icon of a plunger appears to the left a stopper. It doesn't have to be a permenent stopper. It only appears when the score reaches close to 20, 000. Curious. Thanx...

Do Devils Crush on TG16! That's my favorite video pinball game ever!

@Croooow111 I know I'm definitely in the minority here but I was never a fan of the Addams Family pinball machine. Maybe because it was always so cheap on me. Another one I'd love to see added is Black Knight 2000. I never cared for the original Black Knight but I loved 2000. That soundtrack in particular was so epic!

@Croooow111 For sure! Too bad there does not seem to be much worthwhile form them anymore since Microsoft acquired them.

My suggestion is if you have not already play High-Speed the real pinball machine. It is a classic and no it is not as flashy as the sequel since it was from 1986 so it has a Alphanumeric display like Funhouse has and so on. It also has the manual plunger which I like better I feel it randomizes the ball more that way. If you want to see videos of the before restoring vids and photos of the updates on my high-speed let me know and I will be glad to link you to my restoration of this classic.

I like Pin Bot in the flesh but I find High Speed Nes easier on the eyes than Pin Bot for the Nes. Yeah it throws off the timing but I bet it takes mucho CPU time to generate speech sounds on the Nes. Although not realistic I kind of like those sprites that grab the ball from the player and bonus levels.
