OLIVE TREE DEATH (Off with it's head!)

I rescued an olive tree, well a small olive plant from Aldi last year, it cost me £2.50. It was going to be thrown in the trash. I brought it home, soaked it, repotted it, fed and and pruned it, and it came back to life nicely. But that was last year. Unfortunately, unlike all my other olives it struggled through the winter and seams to have died. So we will give it one last chance. I will prune it right down the trunk until I see life, if i don't see life I will prune it right down to the base. We will then give it one last chance of life over the summer. Hopefully with a little care and heat and food it will regrow, I will update you in due course with a link below:

I only just came across your channel a few weeks ago and your Aldi olive tree rescue was one of the first I watched. I do hope it makes it! Poor thing!

I bought an olive that was discontinued to £10.00. I got it for £5.00. I followed your tips and I’m glad to see leaf buds growing on the tree. Thank you for your informative videos.

I did this to my Olive tree, and it came back to life, now I have an Olive bush.

I know this didn’t turn out so well, but you inspired me to invest in a bigger olive tree - about over 5ft tall Morrisons, £35 (which I think is very reasonable!)

The poor thing was dried out, potbound and seemed to have been potted in clay… soaked the root in water and sprayed it with the hose to get rid of as much of it as possible and gave it a new pot with lots of perlite. Current issue is it seems to have been wrapped up or confined to a small space for a long time, the foliage is very compact and the branches have grown ‘inside itself’ for want of a better phrase. Hopefully concerted pruning year after year will give it a more natural shape. Right now I’m happy for it to settle in a bit.

Hi Mark, did the tree show any signs of life?
Got 2 more olive trees from my sister in law that she was going to throw away, followed your steps from your previous olive tree care videos and they are recovering well. Cheers for the great advice.

Hi Mark. Any update on this? I'm currently trying to rescue my daughters olive tree which i took over about 6 months ago and it looks exactly like the one you're pruning. I've currently repotted it with fresh compost and given it some fertiliser, plus I've peeled back some of the stem and its green so it appears there's still life in it but no new growth as yet. This is April 2025.

Hi Mark
Thanks for the video and I followed the process to the letter. It’s been 2 months now but still no signs of new life. How long should it be before new shoots emerge and should I water with added plant feed in?
Thanks
David

It's a shame that it's died back so much, Mark. Hopefully, it comes back from the roots 🤞

My dogs pulled off my olive tree out of my pot and did some significant root damage still some on it but the length reduced. What do you think about it Mark?

I’m wondering about the bigger one. Was the trunk that wide when you purchased it. If not, are you maintaining it in the same pot by trimming the roots and pruning?

I have an olive tree that has black spots on its leaves, especially the older leaves, after winter. Have any of your olives had that issue and if so, how did they do?

Hello there! I am looking for some help: my olive tree in a pot in 2 days went dry, all leafs went from green to brown, tree inside is alive - still green. Shall I prun all of it? Limitate watering? Thank you

Olive trees shouldn't be in bushy form. I recommend Eren Vural's pruning videos for olive trees.

I bought one just like that. I anxiously await the outcome and mine will be lopped off tomorrow. Thank you, you have inspired me.

Try watering with banana skin water, that should help revive it. Just soak some skins in a bottle of water and water it in. 👍🫡
