The crooked window in the photo is called a witchs window it was believed witchs couldn't go through crooked windows because they wouldn't be able to fit through while on a broom

The window is called a witch window! Its to avoid witches trying to enter the home. Since witches are seen on brooms, they cant enter that window due to it being sideways (thats at least the logic of why its like that even if it doesnt quite make sense)

I've heard some old houses have crooked windows because back when people believed in witches, they legitimately believed they rode brooms and they didn't want them flying into the house through a window, so they would make windows upstairs crooked in certain houses.
Idk if that's really true but I remember reading that somewhere.

I do like the American timeline, mainly because something that's 60 years old us considered an antique, where as in most of Europe we have buildings still in use that were built in the 17th century

Witch window!!! These are super common where I live, basically people were like “on no a witch could fly through my window” and then some tenuous said “but everyone knows witches can’t fly sideways” and the problem was solved
