Why I returned my Sony A7 IV (APRIL FOOLS VIDEO)

Note to humorless people- this video came out April 1st, take a hint.
Note number 2: I know how to work a camera. I am not an idiot.
I actually DID return the A7 IV. Not because I didn't know how to use it (that was called HUMOR) but
1. because of the stupid extra-step lower mode dial that requires a third button to be pushed in before it even turns
2. It DOES overheat (I said it doesn't but it does)
3. The Eye AF is no better than my A7C or A7III with updated firmware (I wanted to see if it was)
4. The EVF viewfinder is no better than the A7III to the naked eye (I wanted to see if it was)
5. 33 MP is not a noteworthy jump from 24MP
6. I don't need 10000000 MB/s codecs
A7 IV owners will obviously try to validate their overhyped purchase, well I'm glad you like it so much. I returned mine and that's that. Now chill and stop taking this video so seriously.

Markus, I'd just like to say that most of us here truly appreciate you, your enthusiasm, your willingness to share your vast experience, and the generosity of your time. Most of us aren't watching for your giveaways, but it's fun. Your inspiration to generate creativity without the need for all the fancy stuff is your message. You proved it when I watched your videos when you used to use make ships out of paper!
Thank you from the Master Plumber from Boston!

It's wild. I also spent my own money on the A7IV, and the primary reason I love it is the exact mode dial switcher you dislike. As a content creator who constantly switches between photo and video, I love storing 3 distinct memory recall settings for each photo and video. On top of that, having the custom buttons do completely different things for photo and video (like AE and White Balance lock in video, when I have no need for that in photo mode). This camera was definitely made for people like me.

It's funny to me that pretty much all of the reasons you don't like the A7iv, are the reasons I do like it. That stills/movie/S&Q switch was a bit of a game-changer for me, especially using the custom settings. It allows me to switch from photo to video much quicker, without having to dick around with changing the settings all the time. The additional megapixel count seems to make the footage look more detailed without adding additional sharpening, and it also makes the APSC mode a lot more viable for wildlife stuff. I've found the autofocus pretty good so far, at least for wildlife. I'm not all that much into portrait photography. I never really had too many problems with my Sony A7rii or my A7c overheating, and I used both to film long event videos, so I don't see much of a change there. Comparatively though, the viewfinder is a huge step up from the A7c. That viewfinder was pretty much unusable. My experiences have been great so far, but I will acknowledge that the button layout and menus are nowhere as intuitive as my Panasonic GH5. I could pretty much take photos and video with my eyes closed using that camera

I absolutely LOVE your honest feedback. We really need more of this from "influencers". I appreciate your candor and humor! 💚💜

Markus, thank you for being very objective in your reviews. I love your enthusiasm and your take on equipment and how little we actually need to get great results as the ones you get. I have a Sony A7III and wondered if it was worth the upgrade to the IV. Now I know, so thank you.

I m super happy that we have at least ONE Guy (Marcus) who give us his honest opinion about a product. I have the same feeling that it is often not worth to "upgrade" to the new model. The only benefit I see in a new Model is that the "old model" will come down in Price. Thank you again for being the one who always give us your honest opinion . Saludos de Costa Rica

Lol. The video/photo selector switch is literally one of my favorite things about the camera. I do about 50/50 video and photo. As with so many things in life, much comes down to personal preference

That is insane!! With regard to the ungrateful peoples receiving gifts from you and not saying thank you… I couldn’t imagine. I LITERALLY said thanks AGAIN to a guy who HELPED me purchase my FIRST camera the other day. I got my first camera 6 years ago and the guy contributed the most to my go fund me campaign and I’m still grateful to this day. That’s crazy…

Markus, I love your enthusiasm and candor, no question. Just be careful you don't pop a gasket. I've never seen you as agitated as in this video. You're speaking 50% faster than you usually do.... We want your videos to keep on coming.

Hey Markus, I always like to watch your videos, because I learn new things every time, I am a 43 years old guy who is just getting into video and I do appreciate the time you spent to make these videos.

Well, Markus nails it again. He shows the average shooter that having the very best gear in town has nothing to do with making quality product. What he was able to do here with the GM1 wonderfully demonstrates that with proper lighting and setup, one can do some real magic. What a tremendous talent.

I just subscribed, and have been watching lots of various Vlogger "first camera " videos. The learning curve is indeed steep . But I agree it's more about the content and being helpful to people than showing off the newest and latest "kit". Your older video of the whole spectrum on "cheap to good" camcorders was funny as hell, but also quite practical. The amount of time you must have put into that is mind boggling. That right there is priceless. Our sons and daughters need to learn respect. Onward.

It almost feels wrong that my smile grew bigger and bigger as the rant went on. I kept thinking that this was meant for tomorrow but was released a day early. I watched to the end for that "what the heck I'm keeping it" moment but then lost my smile upon hearing 85% don't even bother to say thank you when they win. So, on behalf of the voiceless (intentionally or otherwise), my hat is tipped and thumbs are up. Thank you! Oh BTW, neat trick with the pitch transposer, and I caught the snippet of normal you snuck in there for the briefest moment. Oh... and I do have the A7 IV and I'm keeping it, but it's not that exciting of a camera. Have had a bout with G.A.S. and also have an R5, Lumix S5, and S1h. That's it for me... no more cameras! (Until the next one is released, then oh boy.)
