I think another contributor is alot of makeup enfluencers aren't MUAs & don't actually have a clue what they talk abt. This is also why their content is few useful info & trendy product reviews

This is the difference that has emerged between the old crop of beauty gurus and the new makeup influencers. The old beauty gurus were focused on teaching technique in longer videos whereas the new influencers produce short-form content that is more geared towards sponsorships and maximizing views. Even the term "influencer" is focused on the product, not education.

One thing i find interesting is that art and makeup tips can be connected! Like with brushes, its not just a brush shape thats important in painting but also how thick they are, and now i know its the same for makeup!

These beauty basics tips were popping off in the OG YouTube beauty community in like 2010-2015. Maybe it’s because sponsorships were less prevalent but I think a lot of it is just that influencers forget that the average person may not know this stuff yet…

Denser makeup brushes are typically used for products like foundations where you want it even and in a medium to full coverage, which is why using a dense makeup brush with blush makes it more pigmented. However, I don’t know why anyone would want to walk around with SUPER DUPER pigmented blush instead of building it up little by little and having a really nice blend, but to each their own. Dense brushes don’t blend as easy and you need your blush to be blended well with your base. Blush brushes are usually fluffy (like the ELF brush she’s using) so that you can build up to the coverage you want and easily blend into the rest of your makeup. The Jones Road brush she’s using is, I believe, the “Everything Brush” and is more dense than blush brushes because it’s meant to be used for a variety of products. They have a brush specifically for blush that’s fluffy and not dense. The easiest application for cream blushes IMO without needing to use two brushes is to place it on your cheeks with your finger and blending it out with a fluffy blush brush.

The MUAs I follow always say you can save a little in make up, but to invest in brushes. As with every other occupation, the tools are important

As someone who has been watching beauty YouTube since 2009 this is very much something that beauty influencers mention. I guess the new crop doesn’t??

This was known in the beginning of social media beauty gurus. I remember when makeup brushes became a popular topic. 2014-2016 era, everyone shared knowledge.

i get where you’re coming from but i don’t think it’s true that the influencers are purposely doing this denser brush = more pigment or fluffy brush = more diffused and blended is like one of the basics of learning how to blend makeup with brushes, i think it’s more to do with the popularity of beauty blenders and the decline in usage of powder products that need brushes. I learned this tip in the 2010s from an influencer but instead of blush she was talking about denser brushes for eyeshadow same principle applies though

Dear peachie is the only channel that actually knows how to do makeup. I see “influencers” smearing a heafty amount of concealer and foundation on their skin, when in real life, it looks terrible! Makeup is supposed to make you look GOOD. For example, Dear Peachie taught me not to actually apply concealer directly from the applicator, and instead put a little on the back of your hand and use a brush (it looked like a smudging brush) to apply. Makeup doesn’t look cakey because you used too many products, it looks cakey because you used too much product. Ever since I started using a sunscreen base and A LOT LESS concealer (I don’t use foundation, but I want to), my makeup looks absolutely flawless.

As someone who prefers a more diffused blush look, good to know the Elf brush (which I definitely have somewhere) is a better choice!

Marlena Stell gives great tips on makeup and she just did a video on makeup brushes and what to look for to get the right application.

Same goes for foundation, you’re gonna sheer it out with a beauty blender or fluffy brush. I only use dense for it.

This is something I remember older beauty YouTubers like pixiewoo talking about years ago. These days, influencers just want to sell you stuff. Hence why I don’t watch much beauty videos anymore. It’s like watching a constant infomercial.

Side note that’s crazy that you hit pan on the Makeup Forever palette!! It’s so pigmented! Such a good palette

Isn't common knowledge that densely pack brushes deposits more product that fluffy ones?? That's why people use fluffy brushes to blend eyeshadow and not for putting on color

Y’all I can’t, won’t, rarely use brushes/sponges 😅
I just don’t have a lot of time to constantly clean them or get a lot then clean in bulk.

My digits are my main squeeze!
Pinky=eyes
Ring=lips, cheeks
Middle=face bases
Index=contour, highlight
Sometimes a fluff brush for setting powder~

Maybe not the MUA method 🤷🏻‍♀️ but great for a simple girl~

Also, I feel creams & liquid mu products melt and warm onto the skin sooo much more seamlessly. Tip: always tap and pat! NEVER DRAG on skin!

Density plays a big part, but also the type of fibres used for the brush hair can impact how much product is picked up

this is why i just use fingers for any cream product, i think a lot of MUAs just use their fingers. influencers who sell products always seem to have a million brushes but looking at behind the scenes of fashion shows you just see a lot of MUAs using their hands
