I put a 7-wood in my bag for the '22 golf season and it quickly became my go-to club on Par 5s, long Par 4s, short Par 4s that need precise placement off the tee, and long Par 3s. Whether from the fairway, rough, off the tee, or even from the fairway bunker, my 7-wood quickly became my favorite club! As a +2 handicap, I receive lots of crazy looks when I mention the 7-wood until they see it in action!

I have 7 wood and 21 hybrid because they both have different capabilities. Took my 58 out of the bag to make a spot. Many teachers advise the average golfers get rid of the high lofted wedge anyway. I can open up my 54 and make the same shots as my 58. I found myself using the 58 maybe 1, 2 at most times a round. I taught myself to hit those shots with the 54. I also made a spot for an extra hybrid (27) by using 4 wood instead of 3 and 5 wood (I couldn't hit 3w well off the ground anyway. My bag set up is Dr, 4w, 7w, 21 hyb, 24 hyb, 27 hyb, 6i, 7i, 8i, 9i, pw, 50, 54, putter. I am a 9 handicap but i checked the ego at the door as they say because I have to go with my strength and weakness to score even better

I am 63 and play off 9. I now play 4 wood, 7 wood, 9 wood and 11 wood, then on into my irons. I find my contact and trajectory are far more consistent with the lofted woods than it was with the hybrids I used previously, and I can now hit and hold greens from all sorts of distances. The reality for me TRULY is that I’m far more consistent with the 7 wood than I am with a 7 iron, I guess it’s horses for courses. All the woods shocked my mates initially, but the improvement in scoring has been obvious. Don’t be afraid to be different, and do what works.

I added a 7-wood to my bag last season for the first time in 20 years and I was so glad that I did. I love the flight, the carry and the stopping ability on greens.

I play a 7 wood and love it, I’m getting old now retired and need the extra distance to fit in where I am, so this year I dropped a 9 wood in the
bag, just adjusting to the circumstances so I can still enjoy the game. I checked my ego in at the starters hut.

Great stuff Mark. I’ve just put a 3 wood in (lofted to 4 wood) have a 21d 7 wood and 25d 5 hybrid…..nice gapping. I then go into 5 iron

Also think it depends on where you play...if its 15-20mph winds a lot of the time the higher launchers are not going to be as useful potentially!

I dropped the 5 wood and added a 19 3 hybrid. I found I was rarely playing the 5 wood but I have used the 3 hybrid a ton. I’m 5’7 and just find the shorter shaft easier to hit TBH. Liked my 4hy so much just decided to go all in there

I'm experimenting with a 5 wood over my 17 degree hybrid. Not willing to go any further yet. Even the 5 wood goes high, a 7 wood might be joining Harry Kane's penalty in orbit.

Got a Ping 7 wood this summer and tossed my 3 and 4 iron. Wow, I am 61 and would highly recommend it! It’s my 200 yard safe club. Goes high and straight. Forget the long irons.

With the distances people are hitting their clubs due to the technology in clubs and balls since the 14 club rule was brought in, it would be awesome to have it moved to 16, I am sure the club companies would love this too, as a club junkie bring as many as you like I have no problem with it !!!!

Binned my 4 iron and hybrid for a Ping G400 7 wood 3 years ago. Love it

Very interesting video. I recently just updated my bag and took some notes from LPGA players like Nelly Korda. Nelly, Lydia Ko and other ladies don't even carry 4 irons anymore and instead rely on hybrids or higher lofted woods. There is 100% something to that concept and I think too often amateur golfers let their egos get in the way. While I'm still playing a chunky 4 iron I added a 4 hybrid this year that is basically the same loft but it behaves very different (higher launch, about 10 yards more carry and easy to hit out of the rough). I'm still tinkering with the fairway wood vs Callaway UW and may very likely end up gaming the UW because it carries about the same distance and is just so easy to hit. The game is so much more fun if we just drop the ego.

As someone who recently put a 7 wood in the bag, I can assure you people want 7 woods. The one I wanted was back ordered for 2 months. They can take some time to get the exact spec in that you desire.

I feel that the 7W is the most versatile club in my bag. Try 3 clubs and a putter (driver, 7W, 9I) to see just how close you get to a normal round. I found that repetition with the same club leads to better feel and confidence.

I love my Callaway rogue Heavenwood. Loft of a 7wood and a 4 wood shaft. I also use a 9 wood, No pride or ego in my bag. My handicap is now a solid 9 and getting better.

awesome review love it....what are your thoughts on the Stealth 2 HD 7 wood at 22 degrees ? am thinkin of adding the 5 ( 19 degrees ) and the 7 wood....cheers from Canada

Also what are your thoughts at a 43 1/2 inch driver for better control and ball striking ? would i notice much of a loss in distance ?

I've had a 7 wood in my bag for 25+ years and a number of years ago added a (7 HL which is 24 degrees which is 9 w ) I wouldn't be without versatile in usage....

I've spent a lot of time recently working out the top end of my bag and I've come full circle back to fairway woods. As a high handicap player, a bad iron was straight but in play, so I went long iron. Now that's not my issue. The MOI and forgiving turf interaction of the fairway woods is winning me over and I've just been fitted for a G430 7 wood. Amazing club
