As a rule of thumb, it's very safe to assume that brands that don't discuss sustainability don't care about it. This doesn't mean that brands that do have a section on sustainability on their website are actually sustainable - greenwashing is a real passion for people who want to sell shit -, but any brand that makes an effort to be sustainable WILL advertise it.

Just as a heads up, a garment can legally be labeled "hand knitted" as long as a person operated the knitting machine, not a computer operated it. It doesn't necessarily mean someone made it with two needles by hand. Crochet on the other hand is ALWAYS handmade by a person with a hook. It's not possible for a machine to crochet, just because of the structure of the stitches.
Edited to add: for clarification, a machine might be able to do a basic crochet chain, but nothing more than that; it couldn't do a single, double, half double etc. stitch off the foundation chain.

If this brand was really ethical, you can bet they'd be letting us know about it!

It's crazy how mia is so un-problematic, people get upset over things like her saying crochet instead of knit 💀

I studied sustainability in apparel management and if I can tell you one thing: If they were ethical, you would see that. Just the fact that you didn't find anything shows that they are not transparent. That's never a good sign.

mia casually buys $150 things without checking the size chart all the time and I simply canNOT relate, I'm quadruple checking that and measuring myself twice

Came back to this video 1 week later to tell Mia about Wolf&Badger. It is right up her alley for being ethical, sustainable and supports independent brands from a slow fashion world! And the knit section screams Mia!

I work in women’s tailoring and the length of the pink jacket sleeve is called ‘bracelet length’ . Supposed the finish just above the wrist and can be really chic ❤

As others have said, hand made doesn't mean slow fashion anymore. The only craft you cannot emulate on a machine is crochet, so if the piece is created with crochet elements then those will be traditionally hooked. Another big give away that the company is fast fashion and/or unethical in their garment factories is the cuts and sizing options. Happy to elaborate further if anyone is interested but the basic point is pattern cutting, drafting and grading are all highly specific and costly crafts that equate to a full size range and styles. Pants/trousers are normally missing from these brands as they require a lot of additional tailoring skill, they are omitted in favour of the "tubes and knit" school of fashion. This is easy to make, fast to stitch and most people will fit the products (hence all tops are cropped avoiding tummies and hips and most skirts are a line/fit n flare)
From an old seamstress, designer and textile artist.

I absolutely loved every single piece!!!! but I will say I think the cropped jacket top at 11:35 is supposed to have little strings hanging down it like the picture on the website showed... I have personally had this happen to me! I would open it and be like... hmm.. something is missing. I love your content Mia <3 sending you love and light!!! ps. thank you for showing how fashion can be whatever pleases the eye, not just what social media says is trending.

A good indicator of whether the clothing is sustainable is to check if the fabrics used are synthetic like polyester. These fabrics can be made to feel really nice and high end but are actually cheap and really unsustainable. Not always an indicator for ethicality but my rule of thumb is that brands that use too many of these low quality and low cost fabrics are more likely to be operating unethically

Mia’s grandma aesthetic is thriving with this brand 😂

Me:
Can’t afford anything near these prices
Doesn’t wear things in this style
Would literally never order this brand
Also me:
Watching and listening intently to every detail

I am in love with this clothing line. It is so romantic and beautiful. I am a knitter. I am actually a certified master knitter (I was bored during covid lockdowns and well...) But there is no way that dress is only $150 and hand knit. It could be machine knit and that still can be labeled handknit. Not mass production machine knit. If it is handknit then I would question the ethics of the warehouse that produces it.

Mia, you taking the initiative to do background research on whether the brand is ethical or not is the most humane thing any influencer can do in this 21st century. Fast fashion is touching the sky and your consciousness on this and willingness to minimise the side effects wins my respect.

When she tried on the true medium dress, I was waiting for her to yell, "MOM!" for Mama Maples to try it on.
