Transforming My Saltwater Paludarium: Adding Animals & Solving Problems

The saltwater aquarium with exotic plants is ready for some life. It's a complicated process to introduce live animals to a saltwater ecosystem, what animals are a good fit? And how many?

In this video, we're introducing the first aquarium fish to my saltwater paludarium. In addition to the saltwater fish, I also bought some macro algae and some mysterious creatures that will help keep this ecosystem clean. We also have to do some pest control as I found some uninvited creatures on the live rock.

The bangaii cardinals are so cute haha. I'd definitely add a kole or tomini tang once your tank is a little more established.❤

This is a dream aquascape! I especially appreciate how you built the left corner up with rock, then left the right side open for mangroves - and I think my favourite part is the shallow sandbed a third in from the right side.

I think its a very wise decision to select for fish that are small, and to enhance the perceived scale of this setup. Other additions that I think would be very fitting include...
Yasha & Pistol Shrimp
Yellow Clown Goby
Pair of Helfrichi Firefish
Branching Duncan Coral
Yellow Fiji Leather Coral
Elegance Coral
Crocea or Maxima Clams

That tank looks so nice.
I hope you don´t get proplems with your kardinals, when they are getting older. Normaly is to keep only two of them. The men will kill each other. The Sphaeramia nematoptera or Zoramia leptacanthus would be a better option. I keep both of them, and also the Sphaeramia nematoptera is not so much in a group like the Zoramia leptacanthus. For me Zoramia leptacanthus is the best salt water group fish.
I'm looking forward to the next video!

Oysters or bivalves of some sort would be cool to have on the rocks.

This is an amazing journey you have undertaken with this mangrove pond. To answer your question on live stock. I would suggest some upside down jelly fish, stripped grunts, oysters, some cotton candy Macro algae to grown on the mangrove roots and other macros, Anemones, Parrot fish feather duster worms and some Gorgonians. I thought my 200 gallon aquarium set up was going to be expensive holy cow. Keep up the good work.

Red headed goby are a great choice ! They are so personable and quite comical. They're also pretty small. Ah....aptasia, yeah, you definitely want to get rid of that ! That is an awesome setup !

I like what you are doing with this build. I have been in the hobby since way before your birth, 1978 and so glad seeing some doing something typically not done.

Really like the goby selection too.

I would suggest the following:
Oysters, spiney or thorny
Sponge in high flow areas after any possible algae issues subside.
Ricordea
Tubastraea, although needing fed frequently, you can train the polyps to open when lights are on.

Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing this mature.

What a beautiful dream reef tank. That shrimp has to be one of the coolest inverts in the hobby. I would love one of those. Great video. See you in the next one.

Nice setup, man, it’s really well-done (even if more expensive if I could afford within the next three decades). One thing I think would be interesting is seeing a longspine urchin in the tank, since banggai cardinalfish have actually been known to hide amidst the spines like clownfish in anemones, especially the babies.

Try to find a local reef club if they have them in your area. You could get some pretty low cost to possibly NO cost frags from other hobbyists who are looking to trim down their coral. Once you get a variety of coral you can swap frags with others.
