So I knew Fred Rogers IRL when I waited tables on Nantucket.

Super nice guy. Friendly as it gets. His TV persona was not different than his real life personality.

Last time I saw him, he brought his family in to the restaurant I was working at. He brought them there specifically because I worked there. This was shortly before 9/11. It was a pleasure, as always to be his go-to waiter on the island.

I left the island shortly after 9/11 and never saw him again, but Im glad I got to be one of his "neighbors" for a while.

Rest in peace, Mr Rogers.

Mr. Rogers was a genuinely kind man. Even visiting a little girl who was going to have brain surgery. His only stipulation was that he didn't want anyone to know he was going there. He was there for her, not publicity and didn't want reporters bothering the girl. I think society today really needs someone like Mr. Rogers again.
