Reviving the Nile and Empowering Communities: Bupa Global x VeryNile Partnership

"We love caring for our communities and our planet, and Bupa Global’s partnership in Egypt with VeryNile aligns with this commitment. The partnership sees Bupa supporting local fishermen to remove plastic waste from the Nile River in Cairo, giving them back their livelihood as fish stocks in the river have plummeted due to pollution.

So far, the fishermen have cleaned up over 10,000kg of waste from the Nile through the agreement. This will be recycled into products created by local women who would otherwise be unemployed.

If our planet is not healthy, our own health will suffer too.

That’s why at Bupa we’ve taken on the planet as our newest patient.

We’re taking steps like moving to renewable energy, making our doctors’ and nurses’ scrubs from recycled plastics, and reimagining the way we deliver more efficient, lower carbon healthcare through new apps, technology and other innovations. And this film was shot entirely using virtual technology, which was 95% less carbon intensive than filming on location would have been.

We still have a lot of work to do in order to better care for the planet – this is just the beginning.
