This week we introduce Leonard Akwany, an enthusiastic environment and international development expert with over 15 years’
experience in the environment and development industry in Africa. Mr Akwany is currently the Regional Wetlands Expert with Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) where he spearheads work on conservation of wetlands and water-related ecosystems ensuring healthy river Nile.
In this episode we talk with Mr Akwany about the NBI and learn more about how more than 250 million People depend on the Nile River resources over 10 countries. We learn about environmental flows, fish migration, the impacts of barriers and research needs.
Mr Akwany indicated that more research needs to be done regarding the lack of data on migratory fish species in order to inform the decision making process.
