Even with thunderbolt 4 you cannot get the full 40Gigabit, only about 32Gigabit is available for PCIe storage transfer. The remaining 8Gigabit is dedicated to a video signal and some overheads. With thunderbolt 5, this doubles to 64Gigabit, so you are getting to full spec of thunderbolt 5 here!

the 80/120Gb/s is for Display traffic not Data traffic which results to alot of confusion
this Data traffic is running through pcie 4.0x4 with i would assume 1024Bytes MPS (Max payload size) to reach 7.6GB/s

I’d love to see what engineers (software and hardware) that are retired have to say about this technology!

Nice. Many people are angry about the high price of Apple Thunderbolt cables and believe they are taking advantage of users. If a future video covers the types of thunderbolt 5 cables available, could you include the quality materials and technology used? I watched a video last year that cut into different thunderbolt cables and demonstrated that Apple’s cables were high tech with expensive components which resulted in significant performance improvements over the cheaper cables sold on Amazon.

Iperf should be one direction at a time. It should be boosting up to 120Gbps I would think. That being said over my 100G switch I’ve only seen a max speed of 55Gbps so maybe a Thunderbolt 5 to PCIE adapter with a 100G nic is a possibility soon will be testing once one becomes available.

But why are Iphone's still usb2.0 and only recently usb3.1? Makes backing up the iphone very difficult via wire.

This allows us to understand how fast the networks are in 100, 200, 500 gibs. It's pretty impressive that you can already get over 60 on consumer electronics in the form of a laptop!

Finally! USB that faster then my internet connection has arrived on the market!!!

My only question about the TB5 is whether it will let us upgrade the storage using an external SSD, and if that external SSD will be as fast as an internal SSD. Does this video answer that?

Please expand on type of cable and type of software used to test.

Isn't TB5 supposed to be 64Gbps for data transfer only? 80Gbps is the total bw, Data + display.

Is that the Apple Thunderbolt 5 cable or a 3rd party cable?

80Gbps would be without overhead and I also feel that would be without the encoding which I think TBT5 does?

I’m still using 1Gbps ethernet connection XD

I know, it has more characteristics and features. But a direct connection sounds good for migrations.

Nice, 2 m1 mbp, gave me only about 20

Is it bidirectional (full duplex) TB 4 was not full duplex.

this is actually interesting cause I have same issue with Thunderbolt 4. I have connected Macbook Pro with Mac Mini and got 20Gbps instead 40Gbps
even I set net.ipv4.tcp_window_scaling = 1 there seems smthing is still slowing it down :/

It's 8 GigaBytes per second. Impressive but not 65 GigaBytes/sec impressive.

not worth the price, and you barely can tell the speed difference.

I am afraid that even though Apple has innovated this way, their shipping system is massively outdated compared to Amazon. They need to provide worldwide shipping to ensure that anyone around the globe can buy their products regardless of their location whatsoever. I mean, Amazon has now started shipping to Africa and most parts of Asia while Apple is still shipping to developed countries only, they really need to work on their shipping systems asap
