The combination of heavy machinery and skilled workers is always impressive. Thanks for giving us a behind-the-scenes look at the scrap yard!

Joys of owning equipment. Don't matter if it's new or old they all break down

I have been present for many many liehberr pump swaps haha. Mostly just failing pumps though, no sheared shafts.

Yup, right in the way. I've had vehicles break down in the middle of the freeway; on a bridge

Good luck on the repairand meeting your deadline!

No, a machine is only as good as it is, not as you want, all machinery sooner or later, needs repairs, but they never breakdown at a convenient time,

Very true. Last weekend I rented an 18000 lb mini excavator and it got stuck in my lagoon lol. I lost my deposit 😅

Buy a komatsu. I ran the lieberrs back in the 90's. The swing motors are a weak link on the lieberrs. I've been running komatsu for 25 years with no problem doing demolition work.

Don't be dramatic. You could have run the machine with a bad wing pump. If the working pumps are in good order. Start that pig and get it out the way.

Ah!! A fellow junkie!! I used to work for a scrap dealer in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I was a crane operator we had used cable cranes Bucyrus Erie 22B all mechanical equipment it would beat the shit out of you and we scrapped it. We bought a Link-Belt LS 78 hydraulic/cable it run over 20 years. My boss decided enough of old junk and bought a new Link-Belt LS-3400S all hydraulic a dream to operate here in Canada we get cold and machinery needs time to warm up WE came early to work for warm up time it had magnet/ grapple attachments. To one friendly junkie to another have fun.

What is your workshop, parts bench stock and emergency parts buying strategy? How do you plan and schedule maintenance or is it more a "run until it breaks" because throughput makes the most profit?

Shit don't break when you ain't using it.

If it sheared the shaft off the pump then replacing the pump is just a bandaid. Fix the reason the shaft got sheared AND fix the pump

Be glad that side of the circuit did let go or shear off as designed... Yes, it sucks, but that is designed to shear under massive slewing pressures or fast back and forth rotations, which causes oil hammering in the lines, which translated to either end feeling that mechanically... Which is what happened here.. high rpms, fully throttle direction changes and typical old age, etc... again, be glad it let go there... The other locations, are more costly, harder to access and deal with, even fishing a hose that ruptured is a nightmare for the slewing motor from the valve manifold..

Looks like the bearing is bad too! Yikes!

When is the best time and where is the best place? All of my breakdowns suck!

Could you bypass that pump to move it if you didn't have one to borrow?
