Let’s not forget that without the GREAT Gwen Verdon Chicago would NEVER HAVE HAPPENED! thank you Gwen!

Why does no one ever credit Gwen Verdon as co-creator? Not only did she help with the writing but she helped Fosse direct and come up with the choreography... oh and she was the one who concieved the musical and fought for the rights!

The best musical ever. I’ve taken my mother, friends, girlfriend, boyfriend., gay friends and even my dad and they were hooked. No big stage production just great jazz band, great legs and pure sass!

well, that was short. And odd. I thought there would be more fanfare than this.

I saw that in Broadway in Nashville 2004 it is one of the all time favorite best incredible sizzling show I seen on Broadway.

Giving Ann Reinking billing for the revival and adding more feathers for Fosse's cap without even the slightest credit for Gwen Verdon goes beyond oversight to straight up criminal!!! (It's also a gut punch for Bebe Neuwirth to be part of that erasure of Verdon as a woman and artist; it's not like they were going to blackball her from ever working in theater for adding a line reminding people about the spunky "bantam rooster" to whom they owed Chicago in an awards-show banter bit!) I know he was a genius at choreography and all that jazz, but in many ways Chicago got made in spite of Fosse, not because of him. Gwen Verdon was too classy to play into the rivalry trope in real life, but I think it'd add depth and actually strengthen "Cell Block Tango" if they put a reference into the show, changing "six" (the weakest verse) or "Lipschitz" (already carrying correlations to Fosse) to a dame with hair of flame singing a verse about dispatching her business partner/rat-fink husband and his whole chorus line to a hearse by getting them liquored up and then "accidentally" leaving the engine running in the garage or hitting the gas pedal rather than brake and plunging them into a lake, with her the only miraculous escape--after discovering said rat fink had embezzled the money from the tour and was planning to take off with them!!! I don't take issue with Ann Reinking for insisting on the considerable professional credit due to her that Fosse denied most of the women he screwed professionally as well as personally through the years, but I think she did grab a lot of credit without proper acknowledgement of the debt she owed Verdon and HER contributions to the success they worked together to preserve as 'HIS" legacy and would like to see some corrections to that record!
