mojang, minecraft's developers announced yet another decision which has been questioned by it's playerbase, however, this change won't really affect anyone, making it a useless change - mojang messed up.

I don't think they should remove the public access to the api. What they should do instead is allow you to hide your past usernames (kinda like how you can hide skins on namemc)

Personally, me and my friend love this change, we both had cringe name history in the past, and my friend even considered to buy a new account just to hide the name history.

*one key point I didn't mention was that obviously, if someone used your name/address or something as their ign there's no real good way of getting it removed - but at the end of the day it doesn't seem to matter as the change doesn't help anyone lmao

I’m not entirely sure but I think they were doing it because everyone was emailing support trying to get they’re name history removed so they could get a clean name history (I think it did work) but I think Mojang thought everyone had personal info in their name so they just removed it all.

I think that they should let you hide previous names, it would let people hide their cringe names or hacked names but then people could still use the api to track name history. Mojang is ruining their game at this point and removing features the community wants but they don't. There are several other easy options to hide past names, and this shouldn't be an option. I'm currently coding a minecraft hypixel stats and name history checker etc. and its really annoying for me, I wish they would listen to what the community wants more than doing unnecessary changes

It is not necessarily a good or bad thing because there are many reasons to keep this public and private but I feel as if they should have an option for accounts 13+ and for accounts lower than that age rating it shouldn't be an option

it shouldn't have existed in the first place. The cat is out the bag they can't fix it by removing it, a better solution would be adding a toggle option.

I've had someone attempt to stalk me through one of my historical names and another of my names has led to dozens of scam attempts (I have a Minecon cape...). I also know someone who has been harassed due to something in their name history.

wow mojang omg!! this is definitely one of the worst decisions in the history of Java, though other recent updates about "player safety" certainly top it. Delarious' video also explains some risks that come along with this action, I'd really recommend checking that one out!
