How to Remove a Hard Drive From Your Computer

How to remove a hard drive from your computer case.

This is a very simple procedure to remove a hard disk drive from a standard computer case. It only requires a single tool: a Phillips head screwdriver.

First, pull the power cable from the back of the computer where it plugs into the power supply. Press the power button a couple of times to discharge any residual power in the computer.

Next, remove the cover (the case). Normally there are two separate pieces, one on each side of the case. There are typically two screws on each side. Once the screws are removed, carefully pull each side off of the computer.

Next, locate the hard drive inside of the computer and pull the power cable and the data cable from the disk drive. Pull them straight back, away from the disk. It may require a little effort to make them turn loose.

Now remove the screws that connect the drive to the case. There are usually two on each side of the drive so you will need to do this on both sides of the computer.

Finally, slide the drive out of the slot where it was installed and out of the case. You may have to clear a path if any other components or cables are in the way. This may require temporarily removing computer components like graphics cards, RAM or cables. Pay attention to what you are removing and where it is currently installed. Take photos, if necessary, to document how everything is installed. Once the drive is out, reinstall any hardware you removed.

I got an old pc from an office and Im wondering if I had an hdd or not (they might have taken that out) .. you can see a white and metal block (on the top right of the pc -just like you have - can see it on 2:40 ) - is it an hdd (thats what I have on the PC) or does it comes with the case?
