Dear god, this video is misleading. Lemme break it down point by point:
-“These things are capable of destroying entire cities” luckily there’s no cities on Mars
-“It would completely disfigure parts of the surface” two things wrong with that. First, craters don’t make a planet less habitable. Second, we aren’t planning on carpet-bombing the whole planet. If we used nukes, we’d nuke the poles to release more gasses into the atmosphere (mostly CO2 and water) to warm it up by capturing more heat. It also means the radiation problem would be mitigated, since it’d be more localized at the poles.
-“It’s also very likely that, instead of warming Mars, a bomb would cause a nuclear winter.” That’s just straight-up wrong. You see, a nuclear winter happens when dust is suspended in the atmosphere so it blocks light. Well, Mars’s atmosphere is VERY thin; only 0.007 bar at its densest. (For reference, earth’s pressure at sea level is just over 1 bar.) There isn’t enough atmosphere to suspend any dust in. Sure, there would be a dust cloud for a bit, but nothing anywhere near a nuclear winter.

Basically, this video very obviously has no credible research behind it. Don’t put any trust in what this guy has to say

1: 1000 times the explosion necessary to destroy a city is still far away from disfiguring a Planet
2: Disfiguring Mars wouldn't make that much of a difference because there are no useful structures like forests or rivers to be destroyed
3: there is barely an atmosphere, so the particles would not linger aroun
4: A thick cloud of particles might actually help warm the planet, especially since a lot of it will be CO2 that will evaporate on impact

This also doesn't account for the fact that Mars doesn't really have a greenhouse effect because of its thin atmosphere, which is why it's already pretty damn cold by default. The idea here isn't to use the heat of the bomb warm it up, the idea is that by blowing up the ice caps you'll release water and water vapor. The idea isnt to use nukes like a space heater, it's to recondition the atmosphere so it retains heat from the sun. We would actually benefit from coal and oil based power production on Mars because the emissions would actually build up the atmosphere, rather than destroy it.
