Are you gonna learn the fretboard? Or take up CIGARETTES instead? Also check out the pinned video "How Good is 52 Week Guitar Player Actually" for more information about the program. We are officially OPEN for enrollment until Dec 31. We will only be accepting 100 new students

It also really helps to know your octaves! If you can visualize youe octaves you can quickly find the same note on the E/A strings

A trick i saw to start out was to just memorise the notes on the marked frets and just learn from there

This rlly helps to move from that point though so thanks a lot!

You should learn em all, but here's a shortcut of you already know the E and A. The D string is just the E string but flat two notes. The G string is just the A string but flat two notes. The B string is just the string but sharp two notes.

You can also look at the d string as the notes of E but a whole step lower and the same for the G string w the notes of A. And B is just a whole step up. But yk

I use triad shapes and thus really helped me! I know where to play all chords in all the CAGED shapes. For instance for the D string i use the E position since the root of the shape starts on the D string. So playing a E shaped triad starting on the 7th fret is an A major triad. So the 7th fret of the D string is an A. Sounds more complicating than it is an it was an absolute game changer for me! G string i use the A shape. B string i use a C shape inversion starting on the third degree, so the root is on the B string. But you can use any triad you find useful.

I think this might be the most useful thing, personally for me, that you've posted so far. I really like playing an open string and sliding up and down the fretboard with the next string down harmonizing and making it sound good, now I realize I should figure out the notes I'm actually playing there and memorize them that way and maybe I'll get it all down pat

Guys, practicing *triads* was the most helpful for me in unlocking the fretboard. Its better playing 3 strings hitting notes with precision than playing full 6 or 5 string chords. After triads, learn *shell voicings* for the jazz chords. Its also teaches you to play with your wrist or plucking than to swing the forearm allowing for more precision

Just remember this BEAD then GCF . One string at a time . In 5 minutes you know the board, in a couple days you'll see notes before you see fret numbers . Works for all my students .

I just grinded out memorizing them. Didn’t take long. Pulled up a random note generator on Google and just drilled finding them over and over again on each string

I’ve always just matched it to the octave of whatever note I’ve already memorized on the E, A, or D string. 2/3 frets back depending on string

I have the opposite problem because I learned primarily In open g but I can still use this tip ❤

I know them, fairly quickly. You just develop reference points, like E and F sharp on the B string are on 5 and 7, the dotted frets. On G the last dotted note is E the second is C. On D, you have G and A for the fifth and seventh frets.
