I worked in the security field, most of these attacks are preventable. It is usually bad security practices that allows these things to happen. HR and admin departments are usually the attack vector, these departments usually have lots of access, and lack of security knowledge.

As many have already mention here, I hope Rising will do a follow up piece about the massive, historic, pipeline spill that Colonial has been involved with for months now.

Hilarious how oil leaks aren't a big deal to them but data leaks are.

How can we be sure that a cyber attack really occured? It is also possible that the company is making all this up as an excuse to increase gas prices?

Hearing them say gas prices can go over $3.00/gal and I'm here in CA thinking, wow that's cheap.

“We were so worried we had to raise the price of gas.”

So DOT is lifting the 10 hour limit on truck drivers. Great, half-asleep operators driving rigs of 8, 000 gal. of gasoline down the interstates. What could go wrong?

Isn't this the very same pipeline which just leaked over a million gallons of gasoline into park or something?

No mention of the major leak from this pipeline? But they discuss the cyber attack. Could the two possibly be connected? Guess we won’t find that information here.

A month ago they spilled a million gallons. Coincidence, of course.

No sympathy for the company whose negligence led to the largest gasoline spill in us history! Huntersville, NC.

Yes, let's have truckers drive 24hrs with little rest while transporting gas. What could go wrong?

And no money is ever spent on infrastructure. Decades and decades.

Yet we keep paying taxes for no return on investment.

We keep paying taxes and have zero representation in our government. The money just keeps going into defense....yet we can’t defend? Where is that money going all of these many decades?

Why are we still paying taxes for no representation?

No doubt BIG Oil will use the East Coast issues to raise gasoline prices on the West Coast. It's already close to $5 a gallon in many spots in Southern California.

Nice infrastructure you got there, it would be a shame if somebody hacked into it!

Maybe you should have your oil and gas companies spend their revenue on securing their operations instead of stock buybacks and executive giveaways!

I live in WA, our gases is already over $3 per gallon due to gas taxes.

Let them release data about the oil company and it's execs or shut down the economy for the eastern United states?
Tough choice.
