Chasing off your most experienced and talented staff who were going to guide and teach the new generation is insane. Self sabotage, and I love it. 😂

Imagine Walt firing the Nine Old Men in the 50s and hiring first year students from Art School to step in and make weird politicised, expensive and crappy remakes of Snow White, Pinocchio, Fantasia and Bambi. Perhaps with a horse poop scene in the Pinocchio one.

Jennifer Lee should have been showed the door to save some shareholder money.

As a huge fan of Scheherazade and the 1001 Arabian Nights, on one hand, I do want a Persian Disney film (well, classic Disney, not modern Disney, ) but on the other hand I'm scratching my head as to how Princess Jasmine, an Arabian character, speaks to Persian culture

Remember years ago when they were going to build a Persian themed hotel at Disney World?
That was canceled too.

Did ANYTHING EVER come of the Disney “don’t hire white men” video, or did they just ignore it til the news cycle passed and nothing changes at all…

Damage done. These people should have been fired after the first flop

The Iranian princess animated feature would be cluelessly marketed as “The First Ever” Middle Eastern animated Disney story.😆

Open up a new Animation studio, reach out to John Lasseter, hire him, hire all his contacts, hire everyone who got kicked/bullied out of Disney. Profit. With all that talent that got kicked out you got so so much potential. Only make sure your new staff doesnt have any DEI courses-, training or expierience, no gender studies whatsoever. Get solid, no bs HR people who have expierience in a real business where no ideology has a place, like HR from banks, logistics, fuck even HR from the military sector?! Expierience, knowlege, team work and work ethics are the ONLY quality to look for.

Surprised you didn't mention that there's already an extremely established Persian princess story which is very influential both in the West and Japan: Sheherazade in 1001 Nights (from which Sinbad the Sailor is also derived). It would have been fairly easy for almost anyone to helm a Sheherazade princess animated feature: one was already made in France in 1996-2000, for example. Or they could have found one of many qualified professionals who live in Los Angeles and happen to be Persian - there are a lot of them. No need to mine a random folktale from someone's Iranian grandmother - the classic is already there and would have been readily added to the Disney princess canon. Persian women are extremely beautiful - just give her a prominent, elegant nose and some gorgeous long black curly hair!

Disney has never been about real diversity....it's all been for show...

Other than the comment about "all of these different shades of brown", a Persian fairy tale would have probably been a good idea. The problem is that you can't trust these people to make a good product.

The Persian fairy tale is exactly what I have been looking for when Disney announced in the past they are diversifying their movie. Adapting old folktales from another region rather than racebending European fairy tale or already existing characters. Sad that it got canned. But then again, it could be due to incompetence.

I thought the Iranian princess idea was pretty interesting sounding.

Just what the market now demands: Iranian children's stories. Jesus. Like making a German Mickey Mouse cartoon during WWII.

There was an uproar on Linkedin that AI was taking all the work - maybe some truth to that but it seems the Canadians were taking a lot of American work due to tax incentive. So, it's a combination of DEI hire and work going outside of the US mainly to Canada. Why no outrage from the Americans??

Reminder: when Lasseter was outed in the coup, he went to Skydancer Animation. In the next year or so, he'll be reuniting with his old pal from CalArts to make a project called "Ray Gunn". It will either be really great, or so awful. Hope it's the first...

You got it right, don’t expect much of a change with Jared Bush

I’m surprised that the problem was finally addressed. Ann Sarnoff at WB was basically a DEI hire under AT&T and WarnerMedia after Kevin Tsujihara was ousted. Look at what Sarnoff and Jason Kilar did in the span of just a little of 3 years before Discovery and Zaslav took over and did a hard reset. If your product is underperforming and failing to meet expectations, don’t double down on what caused the problem. Change direction.

I am pretty sure a Bambi remake would be that his mom was a lesbian, and he blows 50 bucks in the local forest when he grows up
