In three parts, I will demonstrate my attempts to improve the video quality of the original Famicom. This Famicom is an HVC-CPU-07 with a rev. E CPU and a rev. E PPU. These are very common Famicoms, perhaps the most common of them all. Here in part 1 I have captured the Famicom as it came from the factory, no mods. I have captured Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros. 3, Slalom and Kirby's Adventure to try to show the jailbars that come with stock RF video on these consoles.

I kept the picture a little darker than ideal to try to show the jailbars at their worst. For some reason the sound does not kick in until Link enters the Level 1 dungeon. For these issues I apologize.

Because the stock Famicom outputs only RF, I had to capture it via routing my RF cable to a VCR, tuned to Channel 96, and then from its AV output connectors to the I/O Data GV-USB2 capture device.

In Part 2 I hope to ditch the RF/Power Board and the VCR forever, but will it provide a perfect experience? Only one way to find out...
