My fist experience with modding the AV Famicom. It was easy to add rgb to because the multi out connector is already there, just get the pc10 rgb ppu in and amp the signals. You don't even have to mess with sync, just use existing composite as sync.

I’m a console video game player and AV enthusiast that wanted to have my Nintendo AV Famicom modified to have the best audio and picture quality possible. After subscribing and watching many GameTechUS videos, it was an obvious decision that if I wanted the ultimate quality, I’d have to do it with Jason. As seen in his videos, I can confirm that this man is an artist with amazing attention to detail and polish in his work. I've recently received my AV Famicom to have the following modified features: NES RGB/S-Video/Composite Installation, NES US Zapper Light Gun compatibility, and this particular Palette Switch hidden inside the cartridge slot. I wanted to have a 3 Position Palette Switch with Natural, Improved, and Garish (PlayChoice-10), and he was able to figure it out how to do it. Throughout the entire process, Jason had great communication: prompt replies with straight to the point answers of what can or can't be achieved with his mods. He’s also open-minded when it comes to adding features that weren’t previously available, if possible. The results were the following: the RGB image is impeccable, the hidden palette switch works flawlessly and is barely noticeable yet easy to change, and the console still looks as stock as possible. His mods are absolute perfection and well worth it… I cannot express it enough with words; you have to see it in your own TV/monitor to believe it! Thanks Jason!!

I alsways tought that you need a titler chip for any rgb mod? I have a jpn av famicom modded with a titler chip?!?

Would this be possible with an original famicom? I got one around that I'm not using since it only outputs RF.

So I can understand this, does it still take a Playchoice PPU to get rgb out?

That was rgb on the av famicom 9 years ago

Hello.
I send my message here : I'm currently in europe, and I would like to realise this mod on my own AV famicom. May I ask you the way to realize the board and how to solder it ?

Did you leave pins 14-17 connected to the PCB? I've read a couple guides that say you should lift them to avoid jailbars on teh av famicom. Was this necessary in your case?

Hey, great video. Are you noticing the "jail bar" effect using RGB output?

The ONLY stock rgb nes is the famicom titler, the AV fami is just easier than doing rgb on a US top loader since the multi out is already there, you still have to instal an rgb chip.

Only if you sent it in and complained about video quality is what I have read/heard, you couldn't just buy one with the multi on it.

Was a kit released to do the RGB Mod this way? this looks a whole lot easier than the NESRGB, I would be interested for sure, plus I just like using the original connector that is already present.

I saw some other videos where AV Fami's were RGB modded by removing the PPU and placing it on an RGB board, which seems hard. I own an AV Famicom from 1995 and really want to mod it

I just saw this video and it got me thinking if I got my hands on a PC10 PPU w/ one of those PCBs to mount the RGB amp to the multiout, that would be possibly the cleanest RGB mod in a NES possible.

No, the eject mechanism would thit the rgb ppu.

Hi. I was just wondering if is possible to reverse a stereo mod on the av Famicom great stuff btw.

Glad to see there were some NES/famicoms that did RGB stock. I'd love RGB out on my NES, but the arcade collector in me could never go for stealing a Vs or PC-10 ppu to do it.

I'm really hoping the universalppu is a success as that seems to be the best way to allow an RGB mod on all NES models without destroying a somewhat rare arcade support chip.

Could this be done on an original Famicom?

One less PlayChoice in the world. Next time, kill a panda just to have white fur.
